Much more than LA information,

This review is from: Finding Chinese Food in Los Angeles: A Guide to Regional Chinese Cuisines (Paperback)
This is a wonderful resource. Even without the huge selection of LA restaurants there is vast information about individual ingredients and individual dishes. Descriptions of Chinese banquets, the cuisine of Southern, Northern, Western, and Eastern China, arcane and great info for anyone who really loves and cares about Chinese food....it is all here with good photographs. The research is impressive and it is a fun read.

If you were to eat one cuisine in LA, it should be chinese food. It's a revelation compared to how chinese food is experienced in other parts of the US. But the problem with reviewing chinese food in Los Angeles is that the chinese food scene in LA is so competitive with such a high turnover rate. Restaurants come and go and are replaced by others. There needs to be an updated guide every few years.

this book would be great if the restaurants would still be there. 3 out of 5 seem to be out of business, which shows how alive the Chinese Food scene of LA is.
Descriptions and pictures of the various Chinese regional cuisines are fun and helpful to read. |
