More About the Author

Lisa Regan was born in Philadelphia, a product of two large Irish Catholic families whose roots run deep in her neighborhood. From the moment she was able to put words onto the page, she was writing: poems, stories, and even novels. At age eleven, her parents bought her a typewriter, on which she wrote her first full-length novel. By the time she was eighteen, she had written four terrible young adult novels. Between eighteen and twenty-two, she had a crisis of confidence and although she kept writing, she was unable to finish any novel-length projects. She spent her time working in bookstores while completing college. She spent two years at the Community College of Philadelphia before transferring to Bloomsburg University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in English and a master of education degree. To make ends meet, she worked as both a certified nurse assistant and a karate instructor. In 2002 she finally finished her first adult novel, which remains on a flash drive in her nightstand. In 2006, she finished what would become her first published novel: Finding Claire Fletcher. After being passed over by more than 150 agents and then more than a dozen publishers, her first novel was published in December 2012, followed by her second novel, Aberration, in June 2013. Finding Claire Fletcher won Best Heroine and was runner-up for Best Novel in the 2013 eFestival of Words Best of the Independent eBook Awards. It was a finalist for the Kindle Book Review's Best Kindle Book Awards in 2014. In December 2013, the novel reached number one on Amazon's Bestselling Kidnapping Crime Fiction list; in the same month, her second novel, Aberration reached number one on Amazon's Serial Killer Crime Fiction Bestseller list. Lisa currently resides in Philadelphia with her husband and daughter where she works full time and works on her future novels while waiting in line at the local post office.

After finishing Finding Claire Fletcher I needed some time to absorb the story. Why? Because it was written so well, so truthfully and so filled with raw human emotion I needed time before I could put into words just how amazing this book is. As an avid suspense reader I knew there would be plenty of it in this story, what I wasn't expecting was how well a first time author spun this tale. We are all familiar with the high profile kidnapping cases like Adam Walsh, Jacob Wetterling and Jessyca Mullenburg, but what Lisa Regan does is tell us the story of a girl who had high media attention and the story of the girls who do not. Claire Fletcher is loved by her family and her abduction at age 15 tears her family apart as they tried to go on not knowing if she was alive or dead. Her mother certain she was alive continued to fight to find her while everyone else thought the case was hopeless. Ten years later when men begin showing up at the door asking for their daughter Claire and swearing to have just spent the night with her the past continues to haunt them. With adept swiftness Ms. Regan switches back and forth from the real world to Claire's world and you sit down beside her in the room she is held captive in as her abductor taunts her and you listen as she wonders if her family is looking for her or if they have given up. Should she keep fighting or should she just give up and let death take her? When Detective Connor Parks gets put on the desk he digs into the past files determined to find out the real truth and he unravels a sordid family secret of a pedophile no one could stop and a list of people missing or abused a mile long.

Finding Claire Fletcher contains so many secrets it is hard to review with no spoilers, so I will part ways with the story here and say this.

This is the story of a fifteen-year-old who is kidnapped by a pedophile and held captive for seven years. The sex offender thinks she is younger because of her build and looks, and is disappointed to find out her true age. But there's something about Claire, whom he calls Lynne, that keeps him from killing her even when she becomes an adult.

And Claire, in true victim fashion, can't bring herself to leave him, even when it becomes physically possible. Her own shame and fear holds her captive.

The book begins when Claire meets a police detective at a bar, goes home, then disappears in the morning before he wakes up, leaving behind only a note with an address. The detective goes to the house, expecting to find her, only to find her family and learn how she disappeared. He is the third man who has shown up looking for her, and the family is tired of this cruel joke. But he's persistent and hooks up with a private detective the family hired to try to find her.

This was a competently written book told by alternating the point of view between Claire and the detective. The characters were well-drawn and the story believable. My major problem with this book and probably the reason I didn't give it four stars is that there were too many chapters describing the abuse Claire suffers. I didn't enjoy reading those. After the mid-point of the book, I would have preferred to focus more on the efforts to find Claire and her captor.

I would probably read another book by this author, hopefully one with less abuse.

I spent pretty much the whole day reading this outstanding novel. From the first page the suspense grips the reader, not allowing a moment's peace of mind until the end. Ten years after she is taken, Claire Fletcher is still "with" her abductor, emotionally unable to take advantage of the opportunities offered her to escape, but when one understands why abused women, beaten into submission do not leave their husbands or boyfriends, it all becomes clear. From then on, my heart was figuratively in my mouth such was the tension generated by the fast-paced,plot and excellent writing.

I felt very much for the characters; Claire and Connor are likeable people with whom I could emphasise and understand. I felt as though I were standing nearby watching every move the characters made, so deeply immersed, that I forgot I was reading fiction. In recent times, several young women who have been imprisoned for many years have been released. Their ordeals would no doubt be much as Claire's.

I will be watching for more from this author!

I was very pleasantly surprised, this is a great read. The kind of book you have to force yourself to stop reading , in order to do mundane things like sleeping and eating. Cannot wait to find more from this author. I highly recommend this well written book.
