I bought this book because of the review by the author's (son? daughter?), and I'm glad I did. I'm an amateur rockhound, and this book is very informative for anyone hoping to prospect for gold. I won't be building the drywasher the author designed (blueprints are included as an insert in the book), but Otto relates plenty of good advice. His no-nonsense style also makes it clear that dry-panning is not a good way to get rich. It's only for rockhounds who love the hunt for treasure as much as those little specks of gold that can be painstakingly picked out of the dirt (and that would be me). That's why Otto earns one of my five-star reviews.

I took this book out, along with a dozen others on prospecting, at my local library. I found it to be very helpful. If you need to understand the basics - and it doesn't get more complicated than that for the occasional prospector - and are a neophyte at prospecting, this is a good resource among many. It is specifically geared to porspecting in the desert where you have no naturally supplied source of water. I recommend it to you.

For a small book , it has many nuggets of Great information. i used the blueprint to build my own drywasher, and have already been quite successful in just a few outings. i highly recommend this book to those whose desire to try and find Gold in the desert.

This book is a very good source for basic prospecting information. I was doing research for a prospecting project and this book offered some info I had overlooked before. My thanks to the author.

Its only 36 pages of infor, I,ve seen T.V guides with more infor.Finding Gold in the Desert (Prospecting and Treasure Hunting)

The book was very informative, and easy to understand. The real 'Gold' in this book was the plans for the drywasher. I think anyone could build one from these plans - and you don't need a machine shop to be able to do it.
