Interesting story with some surprises, January 17, 2008
This review is from: Finding Faith (The New Heights Series #3) (Paperback)
Finding Faith is a touching story of honesty, forgiveness and redemption. It continues where Saving Grace left off, this time the story focuses on Paula and Linn.
Paula has been offered a position in Chicago that could be her gateway to her dream job as a news anchor. Chicago is much more her style- she doesn't like all that comes with living in a small town like Jackson Hole, Wyoming (everyone knowing your name and your business, little or no entertainment, limited choices for eating out, etc.) She accepts the position at the same time as her husband, David, accepts ownership of a real estate firm based in Jackson Hole. She leaves him behind to pursue her dream. She makes a lot of sacrifices in that pursuit and even more were made to get her where she is now. Paula's past comes back to haunt her and her first story as an investigative reporter brings her face to face with her mistakes. Can she move on? Can she accept what she has done- and can David forgive her? Will they be able to live together as husband and wife, or will this tear them apart?
Linn is also facing her past. She moved to Chicago to attend Loyola University. She starts work at a small coffee shop to help pay for school and living expenses. There she meets Adam, a handsome young man training to be a minister. They quickly fall for each other despite many things in the way. Number one, how can Linn tell Adam- who's pursuing a career where you lead by example- about her past indiscretions? Two, Adam is engaged. Three, can Linn forgive herself and allow her broken hear to love again?
Ms. Hunter deals with a lot of serious issues in this series. First in Mending Places, there's rape, child abuse, adultery, and divorce. In Saving Grace, there's abortion and adoption. Here in the third installment, many of these issues play a part. Though Paula's story is the bigger feature with the bigger issues, I found Linn's sweeter and more satisfyingly romantic. Both Paula and Linn need to learn the same lesson- to forgive themselves and to be honest about their past with those they love. The story, as is the rest of the New Heights series, is riveting and addicting. Though you can kind of predict the issues when the first hints are laid and the prospects are introduced, you still are interested enough to see how everything is resolved in the end. Micah and Hanna's story (Mending Places) was my favorite because it was the most romantic and sweet, but overall the whole series is a good investment. They are touching stories with real issues where God's healing forgiveness and redemption is evident throughout. You should buy all at once, and have the next one handy because they are addicting!

Best of the series!, January 10, 2010
This review is from: Finding Faith (The New Heights Series #3) (Paperback)
Finding Faith is by far the best of the three in the "New Heights Series." In this book, the characters were well developed and the storyline, although not exactly believable, was incredibly unique. Having read the other two books, I was looking for that unlikely match-up, and when I did guess it, I was relieved that it was nothing like the first book. Once again, Denise Hunter makes readers explore the depths of forgiveness, and although David does forgive Paula, I think the book should have fully addressed the long-term ramifications on their marriage in the years to come. Forgiveness does not erase consequences, and they would have had so much to work through together as they lived with the daily consequences of Paula's actions. Although a stretch, it did make for an amazingly good story.
