5.0 out of 5 stars I KNOW GOOD WRITING WHEN I READ
KORAN!!! What can I say he was instantly one of my favorite characters of all time. He had swag, smarts, and seduction written all over him from the first page. He alluded it throughout and ended when he became the man he was meant to be. WHITNEY!!! She had sophistication, style and smarts which drew her man to her and stayed with them both until the very last page...

Okay, I gave "Finding Forever" three stars. Those who have read it, may feel I'm being a bit generous, others may not.

Okay, I gave "Finding Forever" three stars. Those who have read it, may feel I'm being a bit generous, others may not.

Truthfully, this is my least favorite Keisha Ervin book. I'm accustomed to rating her books four stars or greater. I've read "Me & My Boyfriend" a record 5 times.

I did appreciate that the two young lovers, Whitney and Koran, were able to reconcile after eight years of separation. I'm a fool for a love story and that's been Keisha's niche over the years. That's what I admire most about her work.

However, while reading it, I found myself stopping and thinking of ways that would've enhanced a particular sentence, paragraph, etc. And I don't consider myself a writer. I'm simply an avid reader.

I mainly enjoyed Koran's character. Although, he was in the "game", Koran was a true gentleman. He was quite loyal to the women in his life although Trina was a royal pain in the @#$.

Once the "revelation" was exposed, that's when things began to flow rather nicely. Unfortunately, the story ended shortly after that. Overall, even as a Novella, it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. However, Keisha will be forever my girl. As always, I look forward to her next book.

KORAN!!! What can I say he was instantly one of my favorite characters of all time. He had swag, smarts, and seduction written all over him from the first page. Koran and Whitney had a love so strong that withstood the test of time. If you want to no more GET THE BOOK AND READ IT! I will say this from the first sentence it's a story that will touch your heart and make you sad. It's not just about male-female relationships. But it's about love, respect, honesty and friendship.

KEISHA ERVIN is on top of her game and if you don't know find out with this novel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Finding Forever, September 28, 2008
This review is from: Finding Forever (Paperback)
FINDING FOREVER unfolds against the backdrop of St. Louis with a young hustler by the name of Koran. Despite having watched his mother fall prey to addiction, the streets called, and he answered. Established and comfortable in his lifestyle, things couldn't be better for Koran. But they weren't always that way.

For Koran Whitney was the one. The Juliet to his Romeo. Cleopatra to his Mark Antony. Koran thought she'd always be in his life, until one day, she walked away and never looked back, not giving him so much as a goodbye or an explanation for her departure. He picked up the shattered pieces of his heart and eventually moved on until...Whitney resurfaces. Eight years later. Will Koran finally get the answers that have been plaguing him for eight long years? Is there still a future for Koran and Whitney?

FINDING FOREVER is a love story thin on love, but bold in its direction. A key to a great love story is chemistry. Not just chemistry between the two characters in love, but chemistry with the reader. I could never get a grasp of the character Whitney. She was so hot and cold I never got a feel for her. It was obvious Koran's feelings for her, but the reverse was not so evident. I understood that Whitney was shrouded in mystery, but even so, it did not account for lack of depth. Even as a novella, I felt that she could have been fleshed out better as the characters Koran and Trina were.

Despite its flaws, FINDING FOREVER is full enough to hold readers. I look forward to what Keisha Ervin has next in store for her readers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Definition, September 14, 2008
This review is from: Finding Forever (Paperback)
Finding Forever brings us the tale of young lovers, Koran & Whitney. Koran and Whitney had the love of a lifetime as teenagers, but that love was cut short when Whitney unexpectedly disappeared. Koran, although heartbroken, with thoughts of Whitney never far from his mind, maintained his forward motion and went on with his life.

Fast-forward eight years later, as the two are young adults. They run into each other and the sparks that had been there previously are reignited. Once again, Koran and Whitney find the love of a lifetime in one another. However, things are not all peaches and cream for the lovebirds. Whitney harbors are terrible secret which may tear them apart. It is after all, the same secret that ripped her from his loving arms eight years earlier.

I have to admit off the bat that I am NOT the HUGE Keisha Ervin fan that others are. TORN was "a'ight" to me. It was a repetitive and EXTREMELY annoying read for me at times. So I went into Finding Forever with no expectations.

I was immediately drawn to the character Koran. He was a good dude. A thug who was a little rough around the edges, but he had a heart of gold, and no matter what the situation, he always wanted to do what he thought was the "right thing" at the moment. Of course that mentality brought him drama, but he always managed to play it through. I found him likeable and easily relatable.

The character of Whitney, on the other hand, I found distant. Perhaps because at her entrance into the story, she was shielded with a cloud of mystery. Why did she leave a good guy like Koran with no explanantion? What was her real problem? Was the reader supposed to like her, or detest her for her treachery? Because of not knowing where she was coming from until the middle-end of the book, I was never able to develop true liking or sympathy for the character. When her secret is finally revealed, I found it somewhat anti-climatic, because I wasn't sure how I even felt about her. Perhaps if Keisha had written a full-out novel, she would have had time to dvelve into more of a backstory of Whitney and Whitney could've been "my girl." Instead, when the stuff hit the fan, I was like "uhm".

Finding Forever was the perfect definition of an "okay read" for me. It wasn't the best book I've ever read, and it certainly wasn't the worse. It fell somewhere comfortably in the middle.

Dear Keisha, I personally would like to see Koran come back in another story.

Rating...3 Stars ***

2.0 out of 5 stars Slightly Disappointed, September 11, 2008

I have read and highly enjoyed every novel that Keisha has written, but this book was not what I expected. The book did not have a good flow, it was very choppy and bounced around a bit. The main characters Kharon Whitney did not give me that feeling of undying love like the others written by Keisha. Though this was a novelette, it did not provide that love story that was suppose to be there. More storyline was needed as well and passion. Can't wait to read the next novel, I am still on Keisha's fan list!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good effort but!, September 5, 2008
This review is from: Finding Forever (Paperback)
I'm a Keisha fan...So please believe I was pressed to get this one! I'm was a little upset because it felt like something was missing. I understand the plot, I actually know where she was going with this but what happen. She never explain what happen between Koran and the jealous worker. She never explain what happen between Koran and Trina. I read the part about him coming to see the son but why out of no where the son was at the wedding. Come on now, I couldn't connect the dots! Key, your my girl! I been down for you from jump and I understand that sometimes we have a writers block or a moment of silence. I would have rather for you to chill for a year or two and came back with that fire!

First off, I am a Keisha Ervin fan hands down and have been since Chyna Black and Me & My Boyfriend days but "Finding Forever" showcased the lives of Whitney and Koren who were childhood loves. Without an explanation Whitney left Koren to wallow in his sorrow and wonder why she left only to return years later and want him back. In the meantime, Koren was involved with Trina and had been establishing a fatherly relationship with her son. But when Whitney returned all his love for her resurfaced. Whitney and Koren journey through love bliss and Koren soon finds out the REAL reason for Whitney's disappearance!

This was Keisha's first novella and overall it was a good short story. I do however feel the storyline was nice for a love story but I don't feel it should have been a novella. It had so much more potential to be carried out as a full page novel but Kudos anyway!
