Entertaining and fun!,
By Meredith L. "Mer" (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Finding Francis (Paperback)
This book really hits home for anyone who has ever suffered through the early years of post-collegiate, young adulthood. From New York to Philly and back again, through apartment mishaps and dating disasters, between Catholic school and a first job, this book is hilarious and easy to read. I think that most twentysomethings will be able to relate to most of the anecdotes in this book, and will enjoy Ms Lopez's engaging and witty writing style.

A fan for life,

I just finished reading "Finding Francis" by Cristina Lopez. It was a very enjoyable book written in such a way that you don't want to put it down and you could very well finish it in one night. The quest for finding a lost friend results in the finding of oneself makes the reader reflect on their own life and accomplishments. At the same time, it makes you think of all the people who influenced your life from the time you can remember until the present.I highly recommend this book. Ms. Lopez is a fine writer and I look forward to her next book. You've made me a fan for life (even though I was a fan beforehand)!

Poetics Without Pretense,
By A Customer
This review is from: Finding Francis (Paperback)
Lopez takes the reader on a journey through time, cityscapes and mood-swings while seamlessly and poetically tying it all together. Her humility, honesty, humor and motivation make room for both hysterical cynicism and profound awakenings. Though this is the story of a girl in her twenties, her wisdom and revelations make her seem much older. I'd love to run into her during happy hour someday.

You'll have to read to find out if Francis was found,
By Wendy Maxwell (Kyiv, Ukraine) - See all my reviews

I won the right to read this memoir after hearing the author read some excerpts from the book in Lviv. After polishing it off on a series of bumpy marshrutka rides, I, like Sandy, found myself wandering around in my childhood memories. Remembering things like how simple everything seemed before the second grade and how Ronnie Delgado caught me wiping off his kiss in the cafeteria in first grade. But I digress - of course, this is my review, so I can talk about me, yes? No, this is about Tina and Francis, and that Tom character, the embodiment of the American ideal. What impressed me most about this memoir wrapped in a mystery twisted around another memoir is Tina's courage in writing and her unflinching look at herself, her past, her future. I'm looking forward to the sequel, Searching for Svetlana, about a Ukrainian friend who didn't to bring anything to her own birthday party and the questions that ensued in Tina's mind.

This is a fantastic first attempt by a talented new writer. Cristina's voice is clear, funny, smart and incredibly entertaining. In joining her in her search to find Francis or more importantly, to find herself, I often found myself wandering through my own past and my own self-discovery. Thank you for reminding us about the joy, pain and laughter of each day and each relationship in our lives. I look forward to seeing more from this witty and wonderful new novelist.

Ms. Lopez has a real gift when it comes to writing. A beautiful way of explaining life after college for a young girl in her 20s. Jobs, dates, family moments, wanting to write, putting everything aside and being a Nanny to be able to write and trying to find the school friend and an answer for his dissapearance. I love to read more from this author. An avid admirer in Queens, NY

The inaugural opus of a sparkling new voice. In this 'slice of the artist life,' Cristina Lopez combines winsome humor with self-discovery to bring us the tale of an author coming of age and finding her voice. Francis, the boy with the missing birthday party, becomes the Holy Grail in this heroine's journey into her own psyche to find love and her place in the world. Her writing is engaging and enchanting. Cristina has the rare gift to make you feel she is present with you in the room, speaking her story as if she were enteraining you in her living room. This is sure to be the first of many insightful and delightful works to come.
