Book Description

Emily never thought someone like Tyler could possess such peace. But there he stood looking at that girl with a look of pure contentment. His newfound mouthpiece from heaven. And it hit Emily if Carrie ever finally gave in and went with Tyler that everything she had known and was promised would be null and voided. Carrie had the capability to make Tyler feel his human side. Nothing had ever scared Emily before, until Tyler met Carrie, and she would do anything to make sure they never happen.

Carrie Emison never believed in demons, ghouls, or things that go bump in the night. Tyler Castleman never believed in love. Imagine their surprise when they discovered each other.

Eighteen-year-old Carrie denied her attraction for nineteen-year-old Tyler for as long as she possibly could, but in time they formed a connection that felt almost unworldly. From the day he first laid eyes on her, the charismatic, and reclusive Tyler had been consumed with Carrie, a big-hearted and frustrating girl—who Tyler loved beyond reason. The only problem with that was Tyler had no right to love. After all, love is a foreign concept to a demon.

Things are complicated by the fact that Tyler was not only a demon, but the prince of an elite band of demons. His life had already been laid out for him, and Carrie didn’t fit into those plans at all. Carrie was a complication. A complication Tyler was not willing to give up. Tyler was ready to fight and turn his back on everything he knew to be with her.

Carrie wasn’t so easily convinced. With Tyler, Carrie found isolation, unbearable pain, and that happily ever afters do not exist. However, she also never felt more alive. After a tragic accident, Carrie faced a hard decision. Did she endure it all for the sake of love? Or was the price of sin more than she could afford?

1.0 out of 5 stars Comedy Gold!!!!! March 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is in desperate need of editing!!! The grammar (subject/verb agreement) and the incorrect word choices need to be addressed - .it reads more like a first draft that hasn't yet seen the teacher's red pen. However, the lack of editing made the story unintentionally HILARIOUS! I particularly enjoyed the frequent, sudden fluctuation between speaking and screaming in the main characters. The spontaneous vomiting by Julie when she discovers Trucker is a demon had me laughing out loud. This book was free, but I probably would have paid money for it because it was so funny.

3.0 out of 5 stars <3 Julie & Trucker May 28, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I want to start off by saying that I REALLY enjoyed this book. I liked the story line and immediately fell in love with both Trucker and Julie. This is the first review that I struggled with rating. While I enjoyed Finding Home, the editing was a large part of the reason for its rating. I know that no book is going to be without grammatical errors and I can overlook them to a point. But as a reviewer I feel that I’d be doing a disservice if I didn’t factor that into my rating. I cannot stress enough how much YOU WILL LOVE these characters and I DO NOT want to discourage anyone from reading this book. Just a few lines into the prologue and I already had tears in my eyes. There was something so innocent (I KNOW!! Not what you’d expect from a paranormal romance) about it that struck a chord in me.Emily has always had the ability to feel the emotions of those around her. When she meets Trucker, she feels nothing but misery from him. There were too many things Julie picked up on that made her turn and run in the opposite direction. Weeks go by and she cannot stop thinking about and dreaming of him. Julie and Trucker start dating and he swears never to hurt her. But adds that he cannot say the same about his family. Julie begins to notice more and more oddities about Trucker. Trucker tries to warn her away but she’s already falling for him. Once she learns what he really is, she finds it hard to believe that he’s 100% evil. As Julie and Trucker fall deeper in love, they struggle with his destiny and what it means for their future together. When tragedy strikes, Julie must decide if being a part of Trucker’s world is worth it.I liked J.W. Phillips choice of using journal entries to allow us insight into what the main characters were thinking. Read more ›

3.0 out of 5 stars It was ok...cute at best. March 26, 2014

Although the characters were cute in a coming of age way, cute is not what I'm looking for in a book. this storyline was long and drawn out, with no real purpose behind the characters. the story just dragged on reiterating the same wants, fears, and purpose. overall, not bad. just not what I wanted.

4.0 out of 5 stars A new and engaging paranormal world! January 31, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There are some pretty blatant editing errors in this story that are in desperate need of repair. That being said, I based my four star rating on the contents of the story itself.

A love story between two high-school aged characters, a human girl and half demon/half human boy, who are irresistibly drawn to each other from the very start. At times a bit Twilight-esque, in that this is a love story that is meant to make the impossible possible, it also contains many unique aspects that allow this story to stand out on its own.

The dynamics of the demon world are very interesting. The supporting characters and family interactions are well developed and add a level of complexity to the story that develops into a very enjoyable read. It shows surprising emotional depth while the main characters struggle to define their relationship and decide just how may sacrifices they are willing to make in the name of love. I found myself being drawn deeper into their world.

They author uses the journal/diary entries of the main characters to express their ongoing thoughts in a way that is quite ingenious, and allows each character to show their vulnerabilities.

Besides the editing errors, the only other complaint that I had was the ending, which was a bit abrupt. I hope that indicates that there will be future stories containing these two characters, as there is the potential for a lot more story to develop between these two!

Overall, it was a great read, and since it's without any heavy sexual overtones, I would recommend it to any fans of young adult paranormal romance.

Interview Questions:

1) Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I favor romance with a little smut. Who am I kidding? I favor life with a little smut. I am shy, but loud. I was voted by the other moms at the ball field to be the least likely to get a tattoo. I already had my first tat at the time. I am me and even when I annoy myself, I wouldn't change a thing.

2) Do you have a favorite spot to write?

My couch with a large glass of Mello Yello and snuggled close to my puppy Mia.

3) If your book were made into a movie, who do you picture playing each characters part?

They are so ingrained in my mind, it is hard to picture anyone playing them. I truly believe I would want an unknown to play the parts.

4) Which of your characters would you like to meet in person and why?

Ethan because who wouldn't want to meet a man like him.

5) What is the hardest scene you have ever written?

The last one in Innocent Lies. My heart broke for the both of them.

6) What's the last book you read?

Hunny Bunny, Funny Bunny to my two year old neighbor.

7) What's one random fact about yourself that you can share?

My two middle toes are grown together.

8) What's your favorite outside activity?

Outside of writing: watching movies with my kids. Outside in the yard: trying to get back inside.

9) When can we expect a second book in Dylan and Ethan's story?

If I can stay out of the hospital, October 1st 2014.

10) What project are you working on now?

Pretty Little Lies, part two in the story of Ethan and Dylan.
