This story although seemingly full of non humans pulls you in quickly and is full of emotions! I couldn't put it down. I loved the many mother/child relationships and the romantic relationships. Can't wait to see what Missy and Charlie do back in the human world.

I think this book would make a great movie. not really heavy but a good read. On the same line as The Never Ending story. Only complaint is that now I need to find the next book in the series.

First of all, I want to say that the writing in this was very good. Nice descriptions, and good imagery. I had a little problem adjusting to the narrative—the first 2 or 3 chapters were in first person present tense, then it changed to third person past—but it wasn't anything that was too jarring.

That being said, I was disappointed with a number of things in this story. The premise was interesting and held promise, but there were quite a few things that really prevented me from becoming too connected to it.

The seemingly instant “OMG I LOVE YOU MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF” theme between the two teen leads was unbelievable, and seemed forced. They were 15 and 17, and she had not really experienced life outside a hospital or bedroom because of her illness. They had only been together for a day when this revelation of their intense love for each other surfaced, which I found too fast and cliche. They didn't know each other at all. I know this is a young adult story and this genre is full of themes like this, but I really wish (in general) characters would discover their feelings in a more realistic and meaningful way. Not in a “love at first sight/we're destined to be together” way.

Sadly, the biggest issue I had was the main character. She's too perfect. Everyone she meets in this other world instantly likes her, is instantly protective of her, and becomes a friend very quickly. She's immediately accepting and understanding of every new character, in every situation. She “masters” skills and abilities in a very short period of time, besting opponents much larger, more skilled, and stronger than she after only a relatively short period of fight training.

Nothing throws her for a loop—she always seems in control and on top of things, no matter the situation.

This was better than I thought it was going to be. I read the synopsis and was intrigued. I just didn't know enough to know I would love it as much as I did. The thought that monsters live under our bed to protect portals into our world was unique. It was great knowing that as Missy lay dying from cancer that Charlie, the monster under her bed had spent years encouraging her. As she neared her death he gave her something she truly wanted. He gave her the freedom to be a teenager, to run and play. Unfortunately the minute he made contact with her he was bound to her for life and would take on her human strength. This was sad knowing that she had no human strength because she was dying. The contact also pulled her into his world. To shave Charlie she must become a monster herself.
To do that, she must go on three quests. She is willing to do this because of the sacrifice he has made for her. He wants her to succeed because he loves her. She makes friends along the way who will help her. Will she succeed? You must read this book to find out. This is just the first book in the series. There is so much goodness to come from this author.
I recieved a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Finding Monsters is an amazing book. I love the details. When it comes to my personal opinion, details count big time. I want to see each character, and feel their emotions. A reader should be so sucked into the book that they feel like they surface just to get air, food, and go to the bathroom before diving back under for more. This isn't at all what I expected to read, it was better. Just from the title I knew it meant monsters under beds. So the twist put on that was unexpected, beautiful, and exciting. I'm so excited for the next part of this book, its going to bug me until Liss is finished with it.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Liss Thomas creates a fascinating and intriguing world within the fairly short contents of this novel. There is magic, mythical creatures, and imaginative creations. The idea is a different twist on the monsters under our beds. The characters are easy to form attachments with, though in no way perfect, making them easier to believe.

It is simply written but not to the point of treating the reader like a child, making it a fast, easy, and enjoyable read. My only complaint would be that it was much too short. I will definitely be purchasing the next instalment.

Frank Herbert once wrote that when a reader purchases a book, they enter a "contract" with the writer, and the stipulation of the contract is that the reader will be thoroughly entertained and in some cases touched by the publication. I will say that the eBook I read, Finding Monsters by Liss Thomas, has fulfilled this contractual obligation to the fullest.
