This book is divided into four sections. The first seventeen pages of this book make up the first section which includes some excellent questions to help you discern if onlining learning is for you, and some excellent questions to ask when selecting an online school. This section is top notch and should cause any individual or family to wisely evaluate their inclination to use online schooling.

The next section (pages 19-159)contains alphabetically arranged profiles of more than 100 online schools. Note that this book has a 2005 copyright date, so you will want to verify this info online.

The third section (pages 161-248) is a course index. For example, if you want your student to take AP Calculus BC, look under the Mathmatics section and find the names of 8 online schools that offer this course. You can then look up the school in the second section and find out more information.

The final section (pages 249-254) lists schools by state. The author points out that this section may be helpful if you are looking for free or reduced tuition or for courses that fit with your states particular requirements.

All in all this is a hugely helpful collection of information. My only wish would be that the author has somehow winnowed through the list of profiles a bit more and recognized a few of them as top choices in certain areas. An online schooling newby may be more than a little overwhelmed by all the profiles. Mr. Kiernan, I've got an idea for your next project: how about your top ten online programs for various age groups along with some reviews by users.
