Book Description

March 13, 2012 A Snowglobe Connections Novel
When the road home becomes daunting—sometimes a very capable girl on a bicycle can help find the way.

“Charming, surprising, familiar, and just downright wonderful.”
—Allie Pleiter, author of Yukon Wedding and Bluegrass Blessings

When principal ballerina Sasha Davis suffers a career-ending injury at age thirty-eight, she leaves her Boston-based dance company and retreats to the home of her youth in Minnesota. But Sasha’s injuries limit her as much as her mother’s recent death haunts her. Concluding she can’t recover alone, Sasha reluctantly hires a temporary live-in aide.

Enter the übercapable Evelyn Burt. As large-boned as Sasha is delicate, Evelyn is her employer’s opposite in every way. Small town to Sasha’s urban chic, outgoing to Sasha’s iciness, and undaunted where Sasha is hopeless, nineteen-year-old Evelyn is newly engaged and sees the world as one big, shiny opportunity.

Evelyn soon discovers Sasha needs to heal more than bones. Slowly, as the wounds begin to mend and the tables tilt, the two women form an unlikely alliance and discover the astounding power of even the smallest act done in the name of love. Finding Our Way Home is a story of second chances and lavish grace.

“A heartwarming story of how life’s dance should always be done with partners—even when those partners are surprising ones. Charlene’s true-to-life characters find their way into your heart and stay there for a long time after the final chapter is done. You know them, love them, root for their happiness, and smile for hours when it comes. Charming, surprising, familiar, and just downright wonderful.”

3.0 out of 5 stars Light Christian Fiction - A Good Read July 6, 2012
Format:Paperback
I recently had the opportunity to review a great book called Finding Our Way Home, by Charlene Ann Baumbich. While I would classify this as "Christian" fiction, it was not over the top, and should hold interest for readers interested in contemporary women's fiction.
Finding Our Way Home tells the story of Sasha Davis, a principal ballerina who is recovering from a career ending injury. Sasha is struggling through an intense physical recovery, but even more so, an intensive emotional recovery as she faces the loss of her beloved career, as well as her mother. Unable to cope with the physical aspects of her recovery, Sasha seeks outside assistance. This outside help comes in the form of Evenlyn Burt, a 19 year old vivacious, plump, and completely opposite of Sasha.
As the two women get to know each other, Evenlyn's cheery nature begins to strip away some of Sasha's bitterness. Evelyn eventually learns that Sasha has walked away from her husband, also a prominent ballet dancer, and she works to reunite them. Finding Our Way Home tells a story of grace, friendship, love, and learning to forgive yourself. It is definitely worth a read!

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

A 30-something woman who is injured and cannot dance anymore that leaves her husband over it.
A 19-year-old who is willing to give up college to become engaged to a boy she barely knows.
These are the main female characters of "Finding Our Way Home" and I could not be more disappointed.
The stories of these individuals that merge are not all that bad. But the characters are lacking. They both seem to hold to the notion that they are independent women, when in fact they are sappy and temperamental.
The word "grace" is used sparingly throughout the book as some sort of positive mantra that never really points to the true meaning of grace of the Who that embodies that grace. There is also a snow globe that is deemed "Our Lady of Dance" that is used as a sort of good luck charm/omen of what is to come which completely clashes with any sort of Christian message that may be underlying the story (which is very hard to find).
If you want a mindless read, this is your book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Written and Engaging May 10, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Finding Our Way Home is a quick read and immediately draws the reader into the story. The novel deals with how we handle the unexpected challenges that occur in life. I found myself wishing I was more like Evelyn. She viewed life as opportunities to be taken rather than obstacles to be overcome.
