Book Description

Amazon Best Seller - Contemporary Fiction and Romance, Indie Book of the Day Award Winner

Finding Out is an engaging story of friendship, the challenges we face and the importance of learning from the past.

Getting dumped on the sidewalk by her live-in boyfriend of seven years and realizing that he nearly emptied their savings account is the first of Sheila Davenport's problems. At thirty-six, Sheila had thought her life was on track.

But life no longer makes sense. Now she's saddled with a mortgage that's about to skyrocket, a psychotic boss, and a new employee who is unqualified and hell-bent on messing with the company's rules.

Her friends advise her to date immediately, preferably someone rich and successful, or risk being old and alone. But Sheila needs to figure out what went wrong and how she got to this place. Since Prince Charming has ruined Sheila's life, who can save her now?

Help comes unexpectedly from her elderly neighbor, Ruth Grey, who has had her own share of ups and downs. As their friendship grows, Ruth reveals her deeply moving story of survival in WWII Germany. Ruth's mesmerizing past is a powerful tale of love and revenge that provides the perspective Sheila desperately needs to put the pieces of her own life back together.

Will Sheila succeed at work or walk away? Can she save her home? And why do her friends think they have it any better?

A story of love found and lost, true friendship, and how the human spirit endures.

Finding Out, an Indie Book of the Day Award Winner, reached #2 in Amazon's Contemporary Fiction Bestseller List and #3 in the Romance Bestseller List just two months after publication.

Finding Out has also appeared on the Women's Fiction Friendship, Single Women, and Love & Romance Bestseller lists.

Sheryn's next novel will be coming winter 2013. When not writing, Sheryn works full time and spends time with her family.

Sheila Davenport's life just fell apart. Joe, her live-in boyfriend of seven years, unceremoniously dumped her on the sidewalk. The new girl at work is an unbearable egoist, but she's untouchable and now she's Sheila's problem. Sheila's boss is out of control and headed for rehab. And Joe drained the joint savings account on his way out the door, leaving Sheila looking down the barrel of foreclosure. Where can a girl turn for guidance in the great, uncaring city?

At this critical time in her life, Sheila is invited to dinner by her elderly neighbor, Ruth Gray. As the friendship between the two women grows, Ruth reveals her own breathtaking story of courage and triumph to her younger friend, gifting Sheila with an entirely new perspective. This novel vantage point is just what Sheila needs to unravel the train wreck that her life has become, reassess what matters, and find her way out of the rut she had uncomplainingly occupied-until now.

Everyone who has ever worked in an office can relate to Sheila's frustrations and fears. How am I going to work with this horrible person? What mood will my schizophrenic boss be in today? What if I lose my job and my home? What if I never find anyone? Am I the only one who still plays by the rules?

Turns out, the answer to all these worries is, "So what?" I vicariously savored every win Sheila racks up as she finds her feet and stands up tall. With Ruth's wisdom to guide her, she becomes fearless. Finding Out is the deeply satisfying chronicle of a woman opening her eyes, finding her power, and succeeding on her own terms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read April 17, 2012
Format:Paperback
I was immediately hooked into this story when Sheila got dumped in the first paragraph. The story grabbed me and i couldn't put it down for one second. This is so different from other books, as Shelia doesn't whine about her life and I could relate to her struggles. We have all worked with people like Crystal who is spoiled and clueless. Hearing Ruth's story about WW2 made me want to call me grandmother!

There are lots of turns and twists that i really didn't expect too!

A must read and i definitely recommend this book!!

You will not be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Over too soon June 13, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
First, let me say that I never write reviews, this book drew me in almost immediately. Sheila's story was one that I could relate to, having spent a lifetime in office environments. Her relationship with her Ruth was wonderful, listening to Ruth's story was very interesting and I loved the diversion within the book; one book, two stories. The only issue I had was that I wanted more, I wanted to hear more about Ruth's life after her return to the states and also how Sheila's evolved once she found her inner strengths.

There is so much more I would love to say, but that would reveal too much about the story line.

One can only hope that the next book in the series expands on Ruth's story as Sheila learns more about her neighbor..

More About the Author

I always wanted to write a novel. When I was dating my husband, I told him of my dream. He gave me a notebook and a pen and said "Start now." Then we got married and had children - the book seemed a long way off. I was a working Mom and just didn't have time but the book stayed with me.

I want my children to live their dreams, so I really felt like I needed to lead by example. After many, many long days and nights, starts and restarts, help from dear friends, my dream has come true.

FINDING OUT is my debut novel. It became an Amazon best-seller in June 2012 hitting the Contemporary Women and Contemporary Fiction list. FINDING OUT then hit best-seller status on Single Women, Friendship, Romance, and Love & Romance categories as well.

I am writing a second novel to be released in fall 2013.
