Jim Smoke has been teaching about divorce for a decade or more.
He wrote a great book --- available right here on Amazon, called
"Growing Through Divorce." It's now available in a new edition,
but the old one is very solid also. Buy either one; both are good.

This book helps you avoid the "thirteen mistakes" we make as we
consider remarriage after divorce. Personally I think I made about
two dozen mistakes, but thirteen is a solid number. So many
remarriages fail --- slow down, read this book, think carefully
about what you're doing and why.

You might also consider a new book on this same topic, "Dating
After Divorce" by David and Lisa Frisbie. It is a 2012 release
with hugely helpful advice about new relationships and how to
avoid making mistakes in your future.

I really enjoy this book. It is concise, direct, and humorous. Both authors share from their life experiences as well as from observations they have made in their practice. There is practical advice listed with case studies to illustrate the need to think through a remarriage choice. I HIGHLY recommend this book to any person who has experienced a divorce and to anyone who is thinking of getting married at all!

I thought this book was very good and focused more on making sure we are ready emotionally to be open to the idea of finding the right person. I am pretty far along in my post divorce recovery and probably would have benefitted from this book more in the first year post-divorce. It was full of great reminders and insights into how men and women think about relationships. It is also a good book for those never married that are considering marriage.

It was an eye opener. I especially benefited from the readiness test provided at the end. Great book for those who want to self-analyze themselves and their reasons to be married again.

Excellent book for those ending a relationship. It helps you take a step back and review. Finding the right person after a divorce or broken relationship is very hard. Most times you end up with another person with similar traits. For me I was married for 30 years and had a distant relationship with my ex for 15 of those years due to abuse. So being out here single for 9 years has given me the time to get in touch with myself and do some of the things that I never did for me. Though I'm in a relationship with a man that probably isn't the right one for me as it seems to be following the same path. So getting this book is helping me look at the plus and minus, what I really want out of a relationship, which is nothing more then anyone. Someone who you can wake up to everyday, someone who has you back and someone who is there through the bad times and good times.

Counting on eachother, communication, respect for one another and love is the major requirements for a relationship to thrive.

I love how this book is written. It gives you 13 very specific mistakes that many people make in getting married. I was able to quickly identify what went wrong in my marriage! I also really appreciated the real-life examples at the end of each chapter. Real people talking about why they married and how it failed based on that mistake. Very enlightening, and I am now able to recognize the signs when I meet people. And it's not the particular person you have to watch out for- it's more the situation. For example, one of the chapters is on the 'rescue/rescuer' pattern - this was very helpful to identify if a potential date could end up needing a 'rescue' and I could see the signs in me that it wasn't a good match because I felt like I could end up being a 'rescuer.' Anyway- I absolutely recommend this book for anyone who has divorced and is thinking of dating again. It's a must have, and I continue to go back and re-read certain parts.

Fantastic reading. Certainly gave me food for thought and challenged me as I move into a new phase of my life. I enjoyed the fact that there was a Christian theme to this was it wasn't 'shoved down my throat'. Thanks.
