5.0 out of 5 stars Finding the Right Words: Perfect Phrases
A fabulous mind jogger. I'm handed cards and asked to scribe brief notes regarding births, losses, promotions, illness, recovery, and the whole range of ups and downs. This book is great for starting the creative juices going and suggesting a phrase or quote that helps me express my feelings. You will NOT regret the purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Collection of Phrases, But...
This (very) little book contains ideas for personalizing cards for 30 occasions. The categories run the gamut from frequent occasions such as birthdays or thank you notes, to the rarer events like retirements and new homes. Each occasion has a page or two of short sentences to help you express your sentiments.

This book will not really help you write longer...

This (very) little book contains ideas for personalizing cards for 30 occasions. The categories run the gamut from frequent occasions such as birthdays or thank you notes, to the rarer events like retirements and new homes. Each occasion has a page or two of short sentences to help you express your sentiments.

This book will not really help you write longer notes, or letters; but it is perfect for adding something personal to a ready-made greeting card. The last 40 or so pages are devoted to space for you to keep track of birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas/ Hanukkah/ Kwanzaa card lists. Without those pages, this would be more of a pamphlet than a book. I would have preferred more content instead of space for lists that I keep on my computer.

I like the idea of customizing greeting cards, and I'm sure I'll use the phrases in this book to jump-start my notes. However, if I had leafed through it in a store, I'm not sure I would have bought it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great if you failed grade school Language Arts, March 28, 2005

The best part of this book was the title. It's all downhill from there. I was misled into believing that there would actually be some different and UNIQUE phrases in here. Being one to write out a greeting card to family and friends at least once a month, I sometimes could use a fresh expression or two. I bought this book with the assumption that I'd find all that inside.

Sorry to say, this book offers nothing by way of originality. Do I really need someone to suggest writing these phrases in my greeting cards: "Have a sensational birthday", "Have a wonderful birthday", "All the best to the best", "Just to keep you on your toes, I like to introduce you as my 1st husband..." and more ridiculous wording such as that.

I see that it must have just taken money to find a publisher to put this book on the shelves. Talent and an ability to offer something new was not part of the mix here. I could find more appropriate wording in a grammar school English paper.

I hope I can at least sell my copy at a flea market for a buck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick and easy reference, April 17, 2005
Sometimes life is too crazy to come up with something a little extra on a card. You hate to just sign your name and you don't have the time (or brain cells left after a hard day at work) to come up with something "witty". Besides, if you are all ready witty, your friends and family know it and you wouldn't need this book. It's not meant to turn you into a William Shakespeare.

This book is perfect for those of us real people who need a jump start. You don't have to use the book verbatum. You can make it personal.

I keep the paperback in my desk at work and the whole office uses it for business related cards and for personal cards. My hard copy is at home with personal favorites flagged with sticky notes, right next to my list of things to do, kid's calenders and shopping lists. That's life. Anything that makes it easier, I am for !!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Really not "the right words", October 23, 2005

This book was not what I was looking for. It is just a collection of greetings that you would find in cards. They really don't mean much. I was looking for something more unique.

3.0 out of 5 stars The right words, April 26, 2009

It is an ok book. A lot of the quotes in this book are phrases used in the United Kingdom and do not translate well to America.

Thank you for writing this book! This has been so handy to me in adding a personal touch to my cards to friends and family. While we can all buy a mass-produced greeting card with a printed phrase, handwriting a small message makes me feel that I am really communicating my feelings to the recipient.

This book has been FABULOUS in helping me "find the right words" for those occassions that I don't normally encounter and therefore am not sure what to say - like a friend's loss of a pet or people that are close to me going through a divorce. I think it has also been helpful when sending cards to people I am not very close to, in which the phrases are personal enough to convey my feelings while remaining elegant and formal.

I strongly recommend this book to everyone out there - it is so handy for anytime of the year, whether it's for holidays, birthdays or those unexpected events that arise that require a card to be sent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, January 25, 2007
This review is from: Finding the Right Words: Perfect Phrases to Personalize Your Greeting Cards (Hardcover)
I was given this book as a gift, and have purchased several to give as gifts myself. I keep this book with my notecards and reference it each time I am writing a special note. It is especially helpful when writing to someone in a difficult situation. The book is well-organized and succinct -- unlike other options in this category. I highly recommend this book.
