fine second chance contemporary romance, September 5, 2009
This review is from: Finding Their Son (Harlequin Super Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
His Lakota uncle sent Eli Robideaux to go out and find himself by completing Hanblecheyapi. Instead he arrives at Char Jones' Native American shop without a penny to his name. Desperate, he tries to rob her so he can go home, but fails at the attempt when she recognizes him as her high school boyfriend.
When Eli learns he left Char pregnant, he feels chagrin and remorse. He wants to find the child she gave up for adoption and persuades Char to accompany him on the search for their son. On the trek to California, they fall in love, but she fears he will desert her again.
This fine second chance contemporary romance stars a suspicious Entrepreneur and a young man struggling with his identity. Eli and Char are a terrific pairing whose quest is FINDING THEIR SON. Although the ending is too perfect even for the sub-genre, fans will enjoy the trek with this likable duo as guides.

Spotlight on Sentinel Pass #5, September 3, 2009
This review is from: Finding Their Son (Harlequin Super Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Our story begins in the Black Hills. Seventeen years ago Charlene "Char" Jones lost her innocense with drunk Eli Robideaus on the night before his wedding to another lady, Bobbi. Eli never recalled being with Char and never knew she ended up pregnant. Char was not even out of high school at the time. Aunt Pam helped Char get the baby boy quietly adopted. Char has hoped for seventeen years that someday her biological son would look for her. Char has even been putting money aside in case she found out he had college plans. But instead of a teen boy walking through her store's teepee entrance, it is Eli.
Eli is a cop on the reservation. As his home life crumbles and Bobbi leaves with the kids, Eli lets his uncle talk him into a sweat lodge and going on a vision quest. His uncle claims that Eli needs to find the missing pieces of himself. When Eli wakes up the next morning, he is alone on a cold hilltop in the Badlands. No uncle. No car. No money or credit cards in his billfold. Eli enters a store with a white teepee entrance and his life takes another smashing blow. There is Char at the counter and somewhere in the world, he has another child.
Char does not believe much in coincidences. Perhaps the time has come to stop waiting for her son to come find her. Perhaps it is time for her, and Eli, to go find their son.
**** FOUR STARS! This time the story does not take place directly in Sentinel Pass. Char's store and California covers most of the setting. I was able to see some characters from previous titles of the series, but they are secondary characters. The author focuses on Char, Eli, and the search. There are a few startling revelations about Char and more than one surprise plot twist had me raising an eyebrow. I wish the story could have been longer. Char and Eli's story is complex. Their history together, as well as their private lives while apart, runs deep. This book covers the past of each, their feelings for one another currently, and finding/meeting their son. I want to know more about the son and his history. I hope to read glimpses of how he is doing, if he goes to college, and perhaps learn of a love interest in his future.
As always, Debra Salonen hits the hearts of her readers with a satisfying SMACK! ****

Can Char Make a Life with Eli and Damien?, July 23, 2010
This review is from: Finding Their Son (Harlequin Super Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
What a mess this could be but both Char and Eli are trying to make things not so stressful for all, including themselves. They really don't know each other - those high school memories are just that. It's seventeen years later and now they are going to find their son.
Char's life is the same as it's been for some years now. She is alone but has her good friends from Wine, Women and Words Bookclub and the town of Sentinel Pass but the 3 of women from the bookclub are either married or getting ready to be also involved in the Sentinel Pass TV show so she was on her own really and not minding it too much.
Eli's life has taken a real beating lately and he feels he's almost at rock bottom then by accident he finds Char and he finds he has another child with the woman he barely remembers from high school. His wife, Bobbi, and 3 children are living at her parents with the idea she's going to divorce Eli and marry his cousin. She has kept a big secret from Eli all these years.
Char also had a secret but she didn't feel she had to tell Eli and make a mess of his new marriage. Eli and Char talk with Char's aunt to help find their way to finding that son neither knows. Eli's a policeman on the reservation so he knows how to solve a mystery.
Their search leads to their special love story. It's a Char story for sure.
