“What Roger Wright has done with Finding Work is exactly what the doctor ordered. He takes us on a quest to find what WE should be doing in this world, and along the way torpedoes the myth that there are common levers we can all pull and 1-2-3 we find our life’s work. This is no one-size-fits-all formula. This is wisdom that works!”

--Bob Beaudine, author of The Power of WHO

“I get tired of ‘how to find a job’ books.  Same old stuff over and over again. Until now… Roger Wright is one of the most insightful and creative thought leaders of our time. This book is a breath of fresh air!”

--Curt W. Coffman, Co-Author of First Break all the Rules: What the World’s Greatest Managers Do Differently

“What if everyone found productive work that wakes them every morning with anticipation for what the day holds? I've found mine and I believe Roger Wright’s Finding Work When there Are No Jobs will help you find yours.  Whether you’re a job seeker or an employer, read this book and you’ll start thinking differently about how people actually find work.”

From the Author

You've seen the titles. How to find a job. How to find work when there are no jobs  How to find a job when you're over 50. How to find work when you're under 25.

And you just know they won't help you!

You've seen the titles. Your eyes glaze over. You keep walking. Why do you just know that traditional "how to" books on finding a job simply aren't enough?

Here's why: job search is NOT a "one size fits all" process. Job search is often not even rational. You can write the world's best resume. Give the best interview. Your hair can be perfect. You might even be qualified. And you still don't get the job. How can How to Find Work When There are No Jobs give everyone an answer when the answers that count are all individual?
There's really only one title that matters when you're looking for work. The only title that matters: How do I find work? ME!

This book is different.  Not a "how to" in sight.

I'm retired. I never lost a job. I don't need a job. And when I did, times were different, and jobs, for me, were never difficult to find or keep. But when I opened this book, I realized that all of the activities could be used to change my life, even if I never needed to find a job again. I knew it when I was told to ponder the question, "When and where have I made a difference?" which is meant to help you write a more meaningful resume and perhaps also to interview well, but which we should all ask ourselves frequently. I knew it when I was urged to ask myself, "Does your authenticity come through?"

And as a writer, I will also forever remember the advice to "add music" to my stories. Not literally, of course. It means making your story into a song others will respond to by finding the harmony within and the harmonies you've been part of in all of the lives you've lived. It's about "singing" that song so beautifully that an employer cannot help being moved. But isn't that also something we should do outside of the world of work?

If you need a job, buy this book. If you just want to live a richer, more vibrant life and change lives wherever you go...buy this book. It is a treasure trove.

Roger has done what many are afraid to do - humanize the work dilemma that every adult faces throughout their life. The 5 steps laid out in his book work for every aspect of life, for anything you want to find: work, a job, a relationship, a better job, a fulfilling retirement.......anything. I began using these ideas with my career development clients immediately and have seen their perspective and energy shift in a positive direction as they understand a new way of looking at the process of becoming engaged in meaningful work! Thank you!

Roger Wright is a thoroughly engaging writer. In "Finding Work When There Are No Jobs" he strings together a series of heartfelt, true-life stories that will help jobseekers reconnect with their own humanity in the "new normal" job market that has idled millions of Americans. Just when you think you've heard it all or read it all when it comes to job searching, Wright lays out practical, compelling tips for those of us navigating through what has widely been called "the worst job market since the Great Depression." A consummate storyteller, Wright brings his gift into play with this well-written, practical, and soulful guide. His sole objective is to help weary jobseekers break out of the rut of "networking" and résumé writing to find their calling in life, and tell their own stories so that others will listen and respond. He helps people move through a process that takes them from thinking about career success to actually making it happen.

Pretty much everything that goes into job-hunting is calculated to make you feel miserable. Networking events that echo every awful cocktail party where you've felt like a social wallflower. Sending your perfectly honed resume off for a position that screams "you," and hearing exactly ... nothing, ever. Don't buy this book for standard advice on fixing up your resume or maximizing your networking skills. This book is different. The author of this book is an engaging storyteller. He uses stories from his own life and the lives of others to describe a more humane way to go about finding work. Along the way, if you follow his advice, you'll build community and connect to places you care about in ways that feed your soul.

I've experienced unemployment during tough markets a couple of times now in my career. I only wish that I had this book to help guide me during those times. This book won't tell you how to write a killer resume because a killer resume is NOT going to land you a job. "Finding Work When There Are No Jobs" offers intelligent concepts on how to structure your job search for maximum success whether you have a job right now or not. As someone who has been through a job search twice in their career, I highly recommend this book.

I bought this book because I loved the title. I was really disappointed in the content. I didn't like all the typographical errors either. The author didn't bother to make sure that the spelling was correct, either. I am so bummed about spending my money on this book. Let the buyer beware.

A new way of thinking is exactly what Roger Wright encourages his readers to do. Do not think about job titles and what 'job' you could do based on how your resume reads, but what skills you are born with that make you 'you' and how to use those as the basis for your job search. These principles are put into action when you tell your story that is uniquely yours by enlisting his 5 Principles. Yes, this book is thought provoking and will make you think outside of the proverbial job search box, but it will get your mind to work in ways which are crucial for one to find fulfillment in a new job/position. While many are wanting concrete answers on what to do next in their job search and where to apply for jobs next - Roger guides you on how to get the results while using the natural talents that you were born with that are already present in you.
This book will get you thinking and keep you thinking - it involves some self exploration, but will leave you feeling like a whole person - not just a job searching robot.
