Understand Yourself, Your Relationships, and Your Life,
This review is from: Finding Your Sacred Contract (Audio CD)
Author Caroline Myss believes that before we incarnate, we (our souls) make contracts with people to accomplish and learn certain things. Archetypes, which are impersonal energy patterns, help us and others fulfill these contracts. (For more information on Archetypes and how they "dance" together, see my article Seeing Yourself and Life Symbolically.)
You may wonder "Is Finding Your Sacred Contract Workshop just a re-hash of what's in the Sacred Contracts book?" (At least, that's what I wondered!) The answer is no. There is definitely an expansion of some of the elements covered in the book, as well as interesting stories about Archetypes and how they play out in actors, politicians, and even Myss herself. You may also be wondering "Do I need to read Sacred Contracts to understand the Workshop?" In my opinion, yes you need to read the book to understand the major tenets covered in the Workshop. Why? Although Myss conveys practical wisdom that could be understood by anyone, she refers often to the "3 columns" that are in the book, as well as the Archetypal Wheel, Archetype/chakra correlation, and the Archetype gallery in the back of the book. I think those references would prove confusing for those that have not seen those elements visually (3 columns and the wheel), as well as those not familiar with Archetypes and how they play out contractually. Even though I read and highlighted my copy of Sacred Contracts many times, I found myself taking 13 pages of notes (front and back, lined paper) from this audio Workshop. I'll share some gems from each of the CD's in a minute, but I need to warn you: there are some people that find Myss abrasive, arrogant, and rude. In fact, when I first started listening to this CD set, I was so turned off by the arrogance she displayed in the first few minutes that I turned it off in disgust...waiting several months to even put it back in the CD player. The story? She mentioned encountering someone in California who claimed to channel an archangel (and would do it for a price) as well as providing other services like massage. Nothing in Myss' story indicated that the woman was defensive or haughty, but Myss shares that she thought Don't you even go there, you snoot. I'll slice you in half like a muffin. In fact, in the beginning of CD 1 she says that her whole purpose is to disorient the audience: "I need to unplug you from who you are right now because you are my obstacle. To move and shut off your 'personal self'." She certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea, especially in person or on audio. But there's no denying that Myss has some great wisdom to impart, especially in the realm of becoming more empowered and conscious. And, I can certainly see why some people need a swift kick in the behind to jolt them out of patterns of disempowerment and victim-consciousness. CD 1 Myss describes the Archetypal wheel, the House divisions, the purpose of contracts and their "animation", and the illusion of personality. She discusses how we are under "spells" in our unconsciousness and how "spell perception" has more authority than our own reasoning capabilities. This is why counselors are "spell breakers" of illusion and self-deception. She goes on to share how we can become strong enough to be break those spells ourselves. CD 2 Myss continues to talk about archetypes and contracts, the connection between emotional states and illness, the 3 angels you meet before incarnating (necessity, choice, compassion), energetic currency, chakras and spiritual alchemy. She discusses archetypes in the public, such as Hilary Clinton exuding Goddess Athena, Kevin Costner as Hero, and Sean Connery as King. CD 3 Myss uses examples of great spiritual masters and teachers (like Jesus) and explains the role of four archetypes common to all people (Prostitute, Child, Victim, and Saboteur.). She also discusses these four archetypes in greater depth, as well as how we lose power and the fundamentals of spiritual alchemy when healing wounds of the past. Myss tells a funny story about how 2 seemingly contrary archetypes may show up in a person, such as a female Stanford Professor in a mini-skirt who portrayed both the Scholar with the Goddess. CD 4 Myss fields questions about archetypes (including "Can your archetypes change with time?") She also discusses how the four archetypes common to everyone show up in health challenges (for example, Saboteur hits the stomach/spleen area), how to use the archetypal chart, shadows, and navigating contracts. Myss also takes a closer look at the differences between Healer and Servant, Knight and Warrior, Wounded Healer, Prophet (like Gorbachev), and other archetypes. If you've studied Jungian psychology and archetypes, you may have a problem with the theory that you have 12 fundamental archetypes in your first wheel that never change (as well as two other outer wheels.) Like any profound and powerful tool, Myss' archetypal wheel system can be a double edged sword. On one hand, a person can use the process to further delude themselves, especially if they focus on only a few archetypes at the exclusion of possible others that are working prominently in their psyche and life. For example, thinking "Well, Vampire is not an issue for me because it's not even in my first wheel." Or, using archetypal concepts to relate to people as mere archetypes as opposed to, well, people. However, I've not found a greater tool for excavating the personality and consciousness-and using it to become more aware and empowered-than the Myss archetypal model and the concept of sacred contracts. This CD series is well worth the affordable price, as well as the Sacred Contract book. It's an investment in your life, your health, your awareness, and your happiness. It certainly has been for me.

A little disappointing,
This review is from: Finding Your Sacred Contract (Audio CD)
I have listened to most of the Myss CDs and read all of her books. I found her attitude on this set of CDs at times off-putting. Myss is always opinionated and self-assured; in this CD she at times borders on bigotry about the practices/beliefs of others (and I say this even as I can sympathize with her lack of patience) and she definitely crosses over to obnoxiously cocky. I like my seekers to be still seeking, not know-it-alls.
Still, I give this set three stars because the new insights I got were worth it, in the end.

we where going to cast our "archetypal wheels" with the workshop participants, but not the case. The first three CD's are informative, but mostly filled with Caroline's stories, many of which I had already heard. In the last CD Caroline talks about the first two positions on the wheel, then asks the audience something to the effect, do I have to go any further with you people, and then stops. She is assuming that everyone has the book Sacred Contracts, which I do. The reason I got the CD was because I found that casting the wheel on my own was confusing. So I thought that casting it with the workshop and hearing Caroline helping the participants with their wheels would shed some light on mine.
Very disappointing.

This was my first experience with Caroline's work and I was very disapointed in the way she talked about and to other people. I tried to get past the first CD but finally I just decided that I wasn't going to listen to it. I expect someone who wants to be a spiritual leader to at least be kind enough not to verbally attack their audience.

Very poor,
This review is from: Finding Your Sacred Contract (Audio CD)
First of all, I want to point out that this work is based heavily on her prior books. That is not clear in the product description. As such, if you are unfamiliar with her work there will be many unanswered questions and times when you simply cannot follow her lecture in any meaningful manner.
With that out of the way, the actual workshop was very poor. Both the content and the production value. For instance, many, many times she interacts with the audience but they have no microphones, you cannot hear them, and only rarely does the speaker reiterate what they said or asked. Also, the pace of the workshop is sluggish with too-frequent small gaps that just drag things out. Instead of her spending time complaining about how little time she has, she could have been squeezing every minute with worthwhile dialogue or even meaningful pauses to ponder important points or questions. Furthermore, Caroline Myss' speaking is very unrefined. It really shows through that she keeps needing to be right, often finishing with "am I right?" and "ok?" Additionally, as it went on she seemed condescending, at one point saying, "Oh, I'm not doing a reading. Sit." The only reason I give this 2 stars is because there was some helpful content covered. However, I would never recommend this product.

If you feel that you were sent to this world to accomplish a task that only you could complete, and that your life indeed has purpose that could benefit the entire world you will find this tape very interesting. Life is wonderful but along with enjoyment we have work to complete, certain people to meet and a contract to complete. One sentence that you may say to an individual could be the main purpose of your life. And...that sentence could be as simple as saying "You are important". And...You may never realize that your sentence was the most important statement in your life. This tape will help you understand the Real reason that you are on this journey that we call life.

I'm grateful these books/CD's are available to help shift the human/my consciousness. As a spiritual being having a human experience, this incarnation has been very challenging, so when I hear divine wisdom with guidance my heart just sings. Dear readers Just know even our beloved gifted Ms. Myss has humanity mixed with the divine, as we all do. Take what you can recieve and leave the rest.
My dream is we could broad cast these workshops instead of on Air News Debates.

With a demanding work schedule and long distances from work, I have turned my car into a classroom. The CDs from Caroline Myss are easy to listen to over and over again. Each time I listen to Finding Your Sacred Contract I learn something new that I can immediately apply to my life. It is great exercise for the brain!

She doesnt stop for a breath the whole audio!,

This review is from: Finding Your Sacred Contract (Audio CD)
I listened to her with interest in her medical intuitive work with Norm Shealy, listened to her again in defying gravity which was pretty good and then listened to her talk about what teresa of avila went thru to find God (as if that could really be described in words) Entering the castle and it helped me to sleep at night, but with sacred contracts I gave out. My head was pounding from her non stop talking style, I didnt find any proof that we all make contracts with the important people we meet before we come here so nothing is either bad or good, it just is. (Try telling that to a mother whose child was just murdered that the child made a deal to be murdered before incarnating.) I was looking for some sort of proof, and her archetypal descriptions were actually quite boring. So, she has gone from medical intuition to soul contracts to telling us how teresa of avila found God. Caroline Myss is a very sharp cookie but I think its time she takes the money and retires. Because if she comes out as an expert on one more topic it just wont be fun to listen to her anymore. Same with Deepak and all the other big names. They just keep churning out books and CD's as if they posess all the knowledge of the world. It ued to be a masterpiece took 20 years to publish in the pen and paper days. Now everyone in the spirituality game seems to have a hotline to why God does every single thing. Its getting scary.
