I started my reading tour of the Martha Beck Universe on this book...

I was so touched by her words, I found myself crying in the bath, (I have three small boys, the ONLY time I get to myself is in the bath !) - what she writes makes so much sense to me - that kind of itching feeling when you're not happy in your skin, but you're not sure what to do about it, and your life is OK so what's to complain about ?

She put into words all the uncertainty that I was feeling - the first comprehensive explanation of why I am so sick, so tired, always chasing my tail, propping up other people's lives while mine lurches from one crisis to the next.... Shaman Sickness....

*sigh* I always knew it and I've always tried to deny it, because lets face it, "Shaman and Soul Healer" looks bloody odd on your CV, and besides, where do you train ? Luckily I've managed a work-around - so I'm training as a hypnotherapist now, and I shall see where it leads me.

I've also followed up with some books on Shamanism - I'm English originally, so I've been reading "Elen of the Ways" and "Dance of Stones" as well as "Urban Shaman" which is Hawaiian Shamanism, but absolutely fascinating. I have to say these books sing to me. Maybe I'll go completely that way in the future; but just knowing this about myself - that I have a deep Spiritual Calling which cannot be denied and which will *make me sick if I don't pay attention to it* was worth the $7 I paid for this book :)

And yes, I am getting better. I'm taking less medication and getting more sleep :)

Martha Beck is both brilliant and sensitive. As with her other books, I found this book accessible, hilarious, and powerful. After I read it once, I immediately turned it over and began it again.

New perspective on the meditative state. If you hate the idea of daily meditation but know you should this book is for you. She tells you what you will gain from meditation and how to start.

I'm a Martha Beck fan already, but she keeps generating new angles and practices. Here she focuses on personal and planetary transformation in terms of what she calls wayfinders, folks who don't fit into the dominant culture well, who have desire to serve, who often experience difficult childhoods, etc. She correlates the wayfinder with the traditional healer profile, what's referred to as a shaman these days in New Age circles. She then proceeds to encourage tools for such folks to realize their own paths and destinies while bringing healing to others, human and nonhuman. The focus is mainly on reconnecting to nature and self through practices such as Wordlessness and Oneness. She has some great experiences of her own to share, as well as some references to other teachers. Beck always helps us open to her wisdom with her comedic wit, too. Though the book is jam-packed with ideas, if Beck inspires you to work with even one of these precepts presented, the journey through the book (as well as the $ invested) is well worth it!

Pre-release, Martha sent out a sample chapter of this book. It was riveting. It galvanized all of me into wanting to serve in a way I hadn't felt since I was a girl, longing to "find my dream" as Mother Superior sang to a young Maria in The Sound of Music. The electrifying line, "we move at dawn" had me mesmerized imagining being part of a team of wayfinders in the Wordless Oneness of the Everywhen. I feel connected with this worldwide pod of adventurers energetically, know some of them as clients and colleagues, and am deeply appreciative of this book being written. I've read it twice and it's on my To Read list yet again.

I read a lot, so to give a book a five star review and list it in one of the top books I've ever read is a big deal. Within the first few pages I knew this was going to make that list. I love Martha Becks story telling style and all of the actionable exercises in this book. It was recommended to me at a perfect time, I've been ignoring my call to adventure in my hero's journey for way too long and life started really kicking my ass so I'd pay attention. This book has served as a road map to wake me back up to accept the next call and do it from a joyful, imaginative place that feels deep and purpose driven. Highly recommend.

Finding your way in a wild new world is Martha Beck's deepest and most impactful book yet (and I am a big fan of her other books). If you can suspend disbelief and try the techniques in this book, your life will be more peaceful and you will develop your intuition and connection to the world around you to the point that life starts to feel magical.

I would imagine this book is not for everyone; it requires great faith in the world and a willingness to go beyond conventional wisdom. If you're in that camp, then please do buy it - it is an incredible, life-changing read. Thank you, Martha!

As a huge Martha Beck fan, I couldn't wait for this to come out. It did not in any way disappoint! Though I didn't have the wilds of Africa as my sacred space to "play" in, I do have the slightly rugged woods trails of the suburban USA, and I can assure that the concepts and practices she introduces here are just as magic-making in that scenery. My outer world and inner world are both forever changed because of these practices, and I would recommended it to any other tribe members out there who are coming to their awakening.

For those who believe there are powerful, unseen forces at play in the universe; who appreciate the positive, paradigm shifts that are in rapid progress, and who welcome the remarkable coming together of kindred spirits, Finding Your Way will be an exciting and mind-expanding read. Call me a slow learner, but I'm on my 3rd listen, gleaning new insights each time. I've recommended this book many times and always receive positive feedback. An enhancement to Beck's wisdom is the masterful audio presentation by Heather Henderson.

I loved "Expecting Adam" and am always glad to hear more about Adam as he grows into maturity, but some of Martha Beck's books between EA and this one were a bit too smarmy for me. That said, I think she comes into her own in FYWWNW. Her has stretched her own spiritual muscles enough to be writing to mature seekers and to have a seasoned perspective on the challenges of this life's journey. I loved this book and recommended it to many people in my circle of friends and classes.
