Royal Historical,
This review is from: Love Finds You in Prince Edward Island, Canada (Paperback)
In 1860, 18-year-old Prince Albert Edward, son of Queen Victoria and heir to the throne, toured British North America, including a brief stop on Prince Edward Island. The royal visit only lasted 48 hours, but required a lot of planning to run smoothly. All of that is historical fact. From there, the author brings fictional characters onstage in Peter Stark, a young steward sent ahead to Charlottetown to prepare the way for the Prince of Wales, and Molly Orland, a local farmer's daughter who gains temporary employment at Government House.Molly is a beautiful young woman who wouldn't normally be in a servant's position, save for the family's dire need after her father broke his leg in a farm accident. Her main duty is housekeeping and this is where Peter first sees her. They're immediately interested in one another, but Peter is only on the island temporarily, and Molly is certain he's above her station in life. But there's more to the tale. Molly's grandfather is determined to speak with Peter's employer, the Earl of Washburn, about a historical family matter. The Earl is equally determined to avoid the old man. Peter and Molly get caught in the middle when the `family matter' comes to light, threatening the fragile trust they've begun to establish. Love Finds You in Prince Edward Island, Canada is the first book in the series to be set outside the United States. As a Canadian, I enjoyed this glimpse into my country's history. Though the novel started out slow and with many characters to keep straight, I was soon drawn into Molly and Peter's story.

This review is from: Love Finds You in Prince Edward Island, Canada (Paperback)
Love Finds You in Prince Edward Island was thrilling, riveting, and intrigung. The in-depth details in this book, lined with its helpful historical increments, are greatly applauded by readers like me. The characters came alive, and their emotions and their situations were very believable. The story was busy, meaning there was never a dull moment reading it. I enjoyed it tremendously. This was my first time picking up a book by Susan Page Davis, but it certainly won't be the last. One thing I wished for was a more heightened spiritual outlook, but this book shows how God can bring together families in the most unlikely circumstances. Lovely book, well recommended!

Not her best work,
This review is from: Love Finds You in Prince Edward Island, Canada (Paperback)
I have read two of the 'Love Finds You' novels and I haven't like either one. I love Susan Page Davis's work but this is not her best effort. It is trite, predictable and not well written. The historical part is well written, however. And...this part really creeped me out....she has second cousins falling in love and marrying. Made me kind of sick. I realize that was done back then and in fact, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were first cousins, and several of their grandchildren married first cousins, but makes me feel really creepy. I know my own second cousins and the thought of marrying one of them, well, it's just gross.

More of an Historical than a Romance,

This review is from: Love Finds You in Prince Edward Island, Canada (Paperback)
Love Finds You In Prince Edward Island,Canada was a thoroughly interesting read, however I could not give it the full 5-stars because of the absence of any real development of romance between Peter and Molly. I'm sorry but I expect a courtship and romance in any "Love Finds You" book!I did get totally drawn into the characters and the story,so I am very happy with the skill of the author. For those who complain if they think a book tagged Christian is too "preachy",no need to fear this book. It should not be even be tagged Christian, since I don't recall any mention of God at all in the entire book! Great story (including a little mystery) with great characters.

This book review is for the novel Love Finds You "In Prince Edward Island Canada" by Susan Page Davis.First off I just have to commend whomever picked the cover art for this book. I honestly think it is one of the prettiest book covers I have ever seen. There is something so refreshingly romantic about this picture. The softness and the beauty of the island. The amazing dress the girl is wearing helps sweep you into the timing of this novel with ease. The picture alone would make me pick this book up! Susan opens up a world set in 1860 with artfully flowing characters and an engaging story line. I cannot even imagine what it must have been like that long ago. Prince Edward Island has long held a fascination for me. Every since I saw and read Anne of Green Gables it has been on my list of places to see and explore. I loved getting a peek into it in this book. Molly Orland's father owns quite a large farm and she spends her days keeping house with her mother and helping around the farm. But after an accident lays up her father from being able to help her Grandpa and brothers with all of the farm work, Molly is called upon to try and get employment at Government House as a server or housekeeper. She worries that she will be looked down upon for seeking employment but does it regardless in order to help her family. With Prince Edward of the royal family coming for a visit to the island, Government House is in a tizzy and is looking to hire on extra staff just for his visit. Peter Stark is along as an under steward for the royal party on this tour and unbeknownst to him will run across Molly in her work at Government House. He is attracted at first glance but she assumes him to be of higher class than her own with his clothing and manner. He, however, is just as much a servant as she is. He also works for the very man that her family needs to see. A long buried secret will soon be brought to light and retribution is being sought after. This turn of events will affect Peter and Molly more than he ever thought. Will history repeat itself or will healing be brought to this family? Love, Love, Love this book! Huge thumbs up to Susan! I will be eagerly reading more of her work! Highly recommend this novel! Just beautiful from the front cover to back cover :o)

Molly Orland's father has just broken his legs, and her family needs Molly go to work to help support the family for awhile. The governor is hiring twenty Island girls to work as maids during the Prince of Wales visit, and to Molly's excitement, she is hired to work as a chamber maid.Peter Stark is an understeward for the royal party. Peter is attracted to the beauty of the island and of Molly, whom he wants to protect from the playboy prince. When Peter discovers that Molly's family has a tie to his royal employer, Peter is torn between being a loyal servant or helping Molly's family get the justice they deserve. LOVE FINDS YOU IN PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND has the distinction of being the first book set in Canada. I enjoyed reading the history of the island and the author's notes about the historical aspects. Molly and Peter are both realistic characters with a familiarity about their histories that give them something in common. I wasn't surprised by some of the twists in the book, but others took me completely by surprise. I enjoyed reading about the romance set on this idyllic island. Highly recommended. |
