Book Description

September 1, 2003
Mould making and the lost wax casting of metals for fine art are long-established techniques, which involve both artistic and material science considerations. The methods described in Fine Art Metal Casting cross a broad range of disciplines, from ceramics and glass through to jewellery and areas of conservation, archaeology, and palaeontology, where replicas must be made. This book provides a unique, all-encompassing, visually-based demonstrative source which will prove invaluable for art-, craft-, and design-based practitioners, art historians and curators, scientists and conservators, and researchers and students.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Text, February 2, 2011
This review is from: Fine Art Metal Casting: An Illustrated Guide to Mould Making and Lost Wax Processes (Hardcover)
This book is simply the best that I have found for sculpture casting. I am an experienced metalworker, and I have found many answers in the painstakingly detailed and accurate book. There are entire sections devoted to sprue and vent design, formulation of luto (plaster) mixes, many other mold processes, and much more. In many technical books, I find the text to be enigmatic and the images to be superfluous. In this case, every block of instructional text is easy to understand and has a dedicated and clear image. These master founders offer many rules, tips, and tricks that can only be earned through experience. Even if you know what you are doing, you should still purchase this book. There is nothing else like it.
