Nancy, Bess and George are all members of Park Pals. It's a great summer vacation program, and it's a chance to learn all they can about the world of nature. River Heights' park boasts a beautiful aviary, filled with the most beautiful birds that the girls have ever seen. When a pesty boy tries to scare Bess with a bunch of creepy-crawly bugs, she lets out a scream, frightening away Carmen, the park's prize hyacinth macaw! Now Nancy is on one of the biggest cases of her third-grade career. She's got to use her trusty blue notebook to start recording clues and suspects. Can they find Carmen before summer's end? There's lots riding on this for the three friends. If they can return Carmen to the aviary, they'll be made Junior Park Rangers. If they don't, it looks like this will be one sorry summer.
