5.0 out of 5 stars A Great EP
First time I heard this disc I thought it was pretty good. Then a couple days later I realized I was still humming "A Night at Star Castle." These are the type of songs you keep coming back to. With every listen you hear something new and love them even more. "Hot Sluts", "Debonair" & the above track rock out. The slow tune "Opal Ann" has an introspective sound with lot's...

3.0 out of 5 stars Robbers On SPOON Street
I think this is a really good CD, but unfortunately, Robbers On High Street sound EXACTLY like the band SPOON (Austin, TX).

I was given a copy of Fine Lines and had to remove it from my CD player and inspect the label to assure myself this wasn't SPOON's Britt Daniel singing! Its uncanny!! That being said, I guess its better that ROHS sounds like SPOON,...

With every listen you hear something new and love them even more. "Hot Sluts", "Debonair" & the above track rock out. The slow tune "Opal Ann" has an introspective sound with lot's of space, reminiscent of something Stiff Records would have put out back in the day. The last cut "If You Let Me" is a great mid-tempo closer that hints at a great follow up full length.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little New York love for the Robbers, February 2, 2007

I have listened to this EP quite a few times now and I do think that Ben Trokan's delivery sometimes sounds like Britt Daniel's (from Spoon), but I can't honestly fool myself into thinking that it's Spoon performing. The Robbers have their own sound, despite the vocal similarities. The one slow song, Opal Ann, has piano that carries the melody softly & sweetly. The other 5 songs, all fast rockers, sound almost like they could make it to regular radio, but honestly, who wants THAT nowadays? Sticking to indie label spirit & domain, the band can later change style, experiment with words & music, instead of being pigeon-holed & dictated by the hand of the big label. It's a promising early EP with an addicting sound for fans of guitar/piano/male-singer rock music. Great modern sound; can't wait to hear their 2007 offerings.

That being said, I guess its better that ROHS sounds like SPOON, than say, Limp Biskit of Nickelback.

For anyone who's never heard SPOON, try picking up Girls Can Tell, Kill the Moonlight, or the EXCELLENT Soft Effects ep (if you can find it). SPOON's been around for more than 10 years & with each successive release has grown into easily the Best Band in Texas (IMHO).

Don't get me wrong -- were it not for them being SPOON-alikes, I think this CD would easily warrant 4+ stars. As it is, I'll give it 3. Still a good CD, just a tad too familiar...

I can't wait to hear the new stuff!

I just saw ROHS live last night. They were opening for two other bands, but were easily the best of the three groups there (the others being On the Speakers and The Sleepy Jackson). "A Night At Star Castle" is one of the best songs of the year. I can't wait to see what they do with a full-length album.

The idea that this cd is only 6 tracks long shouldn't scare you from buying it. Very good sound from these guys...haunting melodies and powerful guitars.
