4.0 out of 5 stars Drum and Bass savior?, July 23, 2001

Well people are talking about this album being the fresh new sound of where drum and bass is going. Is it? I would say that thre is a whole lot of where we have been in where we are going. That is not a bad thing. You see when a music evolves it usually loses some of it's fans. Drum and bass has always been known for it's gritty style, and hard edge.

This album shows you what we Americans never really get to hear. The Brit's point of view of this genre. Super gritty, super hard, and pretty fast. But it all works together to produce a peak and valley type of 'dnb' album we rarly get. Wonderful and scary, sweet and spicy. The best in a long while.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good selection, average mixing skill, July 30, 2001

This review is from: Fine Tuning, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
If you wan't my honest opinion there haven't been too many drum & bass mix cds worth listening too-- many bootlegs and live broadcasts are much better... but I may be a little biased, because I'm hardcore into this music scene. If you are new to drum & bass it gives a decent slice of the selection going around in the UK maybe 8 months ago. If you like this check out John B (for some more jazzy flavor), DJ Patife & DJ Marky (Brazilian flavor). DJ Marky IMHO is the best to come out of the scene (ironically not even from the UK) in a LOOONG time. I would keep your eyes peeled for a new Volume of this Fine Tuning series with him starring. (or maybe Marcus Intalex-- he's dope too)
