Such vitriol from other reviewers! I think this a fun book if you're into bottled waters like me. The best bottled water I ever tasted was Badoit in Paris. One of the finest mineral waters plus rare outside of France. Lots of fun facts, history, minerality, and origin. Makes a nice addition to any cooking or bar book.

I was intrigued by this book when I heard about it on NPR a few years ago. It did not disappoint. Politics aside, this book is well researched and should be read by those interested in history and culture, as well as a curiosity on why certain waters pleasure our senses. I am not above drinking tap water and don't profess to be a bottled water snob but always wondered why certain bottled waters appealed to me over others.Yes, I've heard the remarks you can't tell the difference in bottled waters. Well after reading this book you will have a knowledge of what to look for in water, and how to select based on personal preference. This book did a wonderful job in rating and describing the waters. It also helped me in selecting wines.

I think all the other reviewers have sufficiently described the contents of this fascinating book, so I will just compare it to the contents on the finewaters.com website. All the information is essentially the same. The main text is the same as the text on the site (history, water sources, etiquette, health). If you look at the Table of Contents, you can see what has been included. The only information not really included is all the stuff on spas--in which case snippets of it has been interspersed in the history section in side panels. About 2/3 of the book consists of a directory of his personal pick of 100 bottled waters which is set up just like the website. The author explains that this should not be thought of as a top 100 list, or anything like that. Just a list to show the wide variety of bottle waters and his personal favorites. The only thing it doesn't include is the website and contact information for each water.

If you are interested in the topic and just want to read more about it, I recommend just saving your money and visiting the website. It has all the same information if not less. Especially the directory, which was purposely limited to 100. Obviously the website has the benefit of limitless entries and regular updates. If you find the website's formatting a little infuriating (which it is), then you could buy the book and have it wonderfully organized and neatly bound. It is of good quality and the pages are full colored, thick, and glossy like a photography book.

To summarize, buy the book if you:
- Prefer books/want a physical copy
- Are interested in which 100 he chose to mention
- Want a signed copy (in which case you need to order it directly from his website- no extra charge)

Otherwise, you're better off reading the website.

Goes into in-depth analysis of all the components of taste and flavour..
Can't include them all, but great sampling of waters across the globe.
