5.0 out of 5 stars Great Teacher, Great Video November 13, 2011
Forget that Nick Offerman is Ron Swanson from NBC's "Parks and Rec", he is a great woodworking teacher. This video takes you through the entire process of building a canoe from making the molds to launching the canoe. Nick is a great teacher and does a great job explaining what hand tools he is using and why. This isn't a video that has all the mistakes edited out, it shows you mistakes and shows you how to correct them. The exercises and experiences Nick covers in this video can be applied to any woodworking project, not just building a canoe. I am a beginner to woodworking and right now just have time to research and dabble a little, videos like this are great for instruction and motivation. This video isn't for wood-project-completer's so if you're one of those "woodworkers" who get more satifaction out of "knocking" projects off you list than this is not for you. This project took Nick 8 months to complete and this type of project is geared more for the woodworkers who gain just as much satifaction from the process, not those who just want to run everything through a CNC machine during half-time of a game.

The video production quality is not the greatest but so what, dropped sound here or there or clunky chapter transitions do not in anyway take away from the total greatness of this video.

Ron Swanson once said "you had me at meat tornado", this video is a regular "meat tornado" of woodworking instruction.

My girlfriend and I are both fans of Nick Offerman as an actor. My girlfriend is a practicing artist and loves all things manual, so when I learned that Nick Offerman had made a DVD about woodworking, I had to get it for her for Christmas. She absolutely loved it, so mission accomplished!

Even if you never intend to build a canoe in your life, there's no way you won't enjoy watching this if you're a tiny bit curious. Nick is super knowledgeable and has an awesome sense of humor; you'll be engaged from the first minute.

I wouldn't be surprised if this DVD were impossible to find in a few years. Go for it while you can!
