5.0 out of 5 stars >>>>> WOW <<<<<, March 11, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Finger Bustin (Audio CD)
This album was recently handed to me by a restaurant owner in Pennsylvania. I have since purchased copies for family and friends.

Precise clarinet work... Excellent arrangements... Thick velvety saxaphones... Big bright horns... Sensuous guitar comps and solos... From the Cotton Club to Carnegie Hall... From New Orleans to Newport... This band does it all with brilliance and fire. This is a "must-have" album.

The album has 13 songs done with 3 separate instrumentations: quartet, quintet, and 16-piece big band. All of the arrangements are vibrant and range from big and bright to soft and sophisticated.

Joe Midiri's clarinet work is a beautiful hybrid of Bennie Goodman and "younger" contemporaries like Alvin Batiste. Pat Mercuri's guitar is beautiful... reminiscent of Joe Pass, etc. I don't think I can say enough good things about this album... I just hope that you'll hear for yourself.
