Best (Joe) Beck,

This review is from: Finger Painting (Audio CD)
Guitarist Joe Beck with Pat Methaney's rhythm section of Mark Egan and Dan Gotlieb, along with Sax man Bill Evans will knock your socks off. This album is in the vein of John Scofield's A-Go-GO but much better, content wise and sonicly speaking. The sound is just incredible. The album has to be the most overlooked underheard record of 1996. This is the album Beck should have made on DMP. The performances here out class anything Joe has done for DMP and the sound is better. Sorry Tom Jung. Saxman Bill Evans has to be the most under appreciated blower of the decade. You can find his Cd's in the back of the pianoman Bill Evan's bin at your local music store. The fresh jazz grooves made by guitar, sax , bass and drum on this disc should have been an instant Grammy. Terribly overlooked most likely due to zero hype and no PR budget. Wavetone records? A big label should pick this up and re-release but they would probably compromise the sound. Joe Beck fans, buy with confidence, everybody else, hold on to your socks.
