I'm an acute care nurse in a 500+ bed hospital. Finding a pulse oximeter that works is sometimes a nightmare, they seem to disappear off the machines or just in general do not work. I got this for a backup, and it works wonderfully.

1. It is comfortable on the finger
2. It has a neck strap and is relatively light enough to wear, however it is small enough for a scrub pocket
3. It came with the batteries needed :)
4. It is accurate
5. It has a self shutoff so as not to waste batteries

Overall I am really happy with this product

UPDATE: 1 year later, still love this product and it's still working with no problems.

The manufacturer says that it is accurate to ±2% on O2 and ±2 beats on pulse. I run with a rescue squad and checked against our $300 pulse Ox. It is within tollerances. It works fine while walking or mild exercise--like a stationary bike. But it will come off of your finger if you try to use it during vigorous exercise. It works better on the middle finger than the first and if you have long nails it may read inaccurately or marginally.

You press the power button, stick your finger in the comfortable clamp, and the reading shows up in a few seconds. The SpO2 and pulse rate readings are displayed in clear, large, red numerals. I compared the readings simultaneously with my doctor's "professional" meter, literally "mano y mano", and found this meter to be consistently 2% high. I spoke with a respiratory therapist and she agreed that it's not a big deal, or unusual, for personal SpO2 meters to be off by a bit. The mark of quality is that the readings are consistently off in the same direction and the discrepancy is small. That is certainly the case with this product.

The meter has a very nice finish to it. It looks much less like a toy than some of the less expensive (and a few of the more expensive) models available. However, if you can live without the case, the neck cord, and some cosmetic fanciness then this, Fingertip Pulse Oximeter, gets you the same functionality for about $10 less.

One issue that I and some other reviewers had was when we installed the batteries. As you can see from the accompanying video, the proper battery position is clearly marked. It's just for some reason you need to be a bit more careful in this case. The good news, and I know this from personal experience, is that the unit works fine if you first try it with the batteries inserted the wrong way.

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews, accompanied by detailed videos, can take the place of first-hand experiences that are often lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've received from other reviewers and try to return the favor as best as I can. I hope you found this review helpful and the video at least entertaining. If there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

I am a nurse anesthetist. I recently bought this pulse ox to take with me on a medical mission to Africa. I was so pleased with the purchase. It was inexpensive, very accurate, easy to cary (lightweight) and even came with a storage case. At the end of my time in Africa, I left it behind for the local African anesthesia providers to use at the hospital, so the next time I go abroad I will definitely purchase this pulse ox again. Great deal!

My first experience with the Oximeter Superstore was honestly not great. The oximeter I ordered arrived on time, but the cover to the battery compartment was broken, so I never could tell even if it worked. I returned it and purchased a different one from a different company. However, the company has since got in touch to make up for the damaged oximeter - they sent a brand-new one, free of charge, and it is state of the art. As I ordered the oximeter for my father, who has COPD and a cardiac condition, my only priority was to get a good product that would help us monitor his health. Now, thanks to the excellent customer service and concern about the viability of their products, the Oximeter Superstore has made that possible.

As for the oximeter itself - it is lightweight and non-constricting (a huge plus for anyone who knows how uncomfortable these fingertip devices can be in the hospital). The display is perfectly legible and not at all confusing (another huge plus for those of us whose medical experience comes through trial and error with a loved one !), and it is as portable as they come. A great little product that joins the useful to the agreeable.

I use oximeters frequently on patients during therapy and this one is quite accurate! Gotta tell you, I was a little surpirsed at it's high quality especially at the low price! I really like that this finger pulse has a hinge vs the kind where you stick your finger in because they work better on folks with skinny fingers like most of my elderly women patients do. It also comes with a lanyard and a little case to store it in!

I was sent home from the hospital with therapeutic oxygen and wanted to keep a closer eye on my oxygen levels than once a week at the doctor's office. I went to a local pharmacy store and they wanted a ridiculous amount of money (3-4 times the cost) for a pulse oximeter that looked exactly like this one. So, I purchased this one from Amazon. It comes with a case that has both a belt loop or clip/lanyard so you can keep it on your belt or around your neck, whichever is more comfortable. I checked its readings against my physician's in-house model (got the idea from another review) and the stats were dead on. It is also very easy to use: Just push the little button on top and stick your finger in the clamp. Within seconds you will have both pulse and oxygen saturation readings. When you pull your finger out of the clamshell, the display goes to lines, and then shuts off automatically after 9 or 10 seconds. The only complaint I have is the screen orientation. When you keep your fingers extended and look down at the screen, everything is upside down. Turning your hand over and curling your finger makes that a non-problem, although I don't know if it changes the pulse reading slightly; however, O2 doesn't seem to be affected. Still works great though! Definitely a great buy.

Pros: Cost-effective, easy to use, small, convenient case, clear and easy to read.

Cons: The screen is upside down to the wearer's view when the fingers are in the natural (pointing out) position.

I would highly recommend this for anyone wanting to keep a closer eye on their oxygen levels for any reason.
