I've been doing my own nails off and on for the last 20 years. Products have certainly evolved since then. I could never quite get the knack of doing my own acrylics--without the professional drill/sander, it was just impossible. So I've experimented with gels. Gels in jars were the first ones available. I would have to paint regular color over them after I applied them, and usually (and still do) put on a tip, silk wrap, and then the products. (What can I say? I have lousy nails.)

I made the leap to gel polish when I acquired a really nice CND UV lamp, so I tried CND Shellac, and a few other products. They would look okay, but not great and they didn't last as long as I wanted. I would spend 5-6 hours doing my nails every 10 days or so. Very tedious work. Filing off the product, making repairs, etc., and then the drying time - 3 minutes per cycle (Base coat, 2-3 color coats, top coats).

Then I discovered LED light-curing products. The first one I tried was Sensationails, which I bought at THE big discount store. It wasn't bad. It greatly reduced the time needed to do my nails, but I found the soaking-off process ridiculously time-consuming, and there was a very limited selection of colors. And they would get dull quickly.

Next, I bought the Haute Polish system, also an LED system. Run, don't walk, away from this one. The gel polishes are very thin, and they peeled off every time I used them.

So, I went to Harmony's Gelish line. I used to buy them on Amazon, but it was a nice surprise to see them available locally at Sally's. Unfortunately, the ones at the store are very small in size, and therefore very pricey. I also noticed my nails would be dull after the top coat.

Finally, I tried Sally's Fingerpaints Gel Polish. They are easy to use, stay on well, and easy to remove. Of all the products I've tried, I'm most pleased with these. They require a 30 second cycle for each coat under the LED lamp, and have held up well the two times I have done them. Wish there were more colors, but they'll come, I'm sure. And the bottles are full-sized, as opposed to the tiny Gelish bottles.

For the record, I'm in my 50's, and I like lots of different colors on my nails. But even if you are more conservative, there are colors you should be content with. So far, I like this product and this kit is a good one for those who want a set to start them off.

I do my own nails with LED gel and I like this brand the best. For some reason I have peeling issues with Sensationail and IBD Just Gel but I have NO issues with this brand. I love Fingerpaints Soak Off Gel and do use other brand led gels in between the base and top coats and I have no issues, however I also love the colors Fingerpaints offer, although they are limited right now compared to other brands. I also purchased their product called Chip Free Bonder and perhaps this is what makes the difference. I'm not sure but for now this is my go-to brand.

I bought this at Sally Beauty and LOVE IT! I recently had a french manicure done with Gelish at a salon. The removal process took some time but did no damage to nail bed. It was a process I'm willing to live with given my manicure lasted 3 weeks and my nails finally grew! I went to Sally to buy Gelish but decided on Finger Paints gel because of price and favorable reviews. Love the base and top coats and truly cures in 30 seconds with the matching LED light. THE ACCOMPANYING LIGHT IS LED, NOT UV. I'm sure there will be more colors coming out soon but you can mix and match the colors with different LED gel soak off brands. I prefer no color on my nails so I just did the base and top coats. It looks like I have clear nail polish on but it is hard and shiny like a professional manicure...and it won't chip in 2 days! I am a novice when it comes to painting nails but this was so easy and user friendly. BUY BUY BUY...you won't be disappointed. As with all gel colors, just make sure you look at the color on a swatch as it looks different on the bottle.

I was never able to keep nail polish on my nails for more than 1-2 days before it was chipped and ugly looking. This product is amazing! No regrets on my purchase. The first use, it lasted about a week before I had 'wear' at the ends of my nails. This was fine with me as it was still 3 times longer than regular polish. The next time lasted about 10 days before the same 'wear' was noticeable. (And this isn't chips, this is minor 'wearing'). The third time has lasted a full 2 weeks. I'm not sure if this is due to my improved application process or maybe my nails strengthening and not being so weak at the tips and holding on to the color longer.
I have had no problems with removal. I follow the directions and soak off with a lint free wipe soaked in the remover and wrap each nail with a piece of foil for 15 min and the polish slides off with very little effort. But you do have to buff the nail prior to break the seal as the directions state. Just follow the directions.
The whole process from beginning to end takes me a little over an hour. Very reasonable.
I love it. I hope they come out with more colors.

I love the polish and and LED light really does cure my polish completely. I wish I had known the "leveling" of the color meant it would bleed next to my nail creating a wing that requires a nail file to remove and it bleeds under the nail that comes off in one whole clump after a few days. That was a learning process. The color problems are insurmountable though. I would love to buy an off white for a natural manicure but I can't tell which is off-white. The colors aren't provided in a row so I can compare and all the whites come up in a search as off-white. Same thing in the store - all are sold as off-white. The sales people can't tell me. I've asked 4 Sally employees. Each one had a different answer. I don't want brilliant white for a common French manicure. I want a natural looking American manicure. Finger Paints makes that impossible.

This base coat is the WORST. I clean my nails with alcohol before I put it on, AND I rough up the top with a nail file a little bit and it still peels off in one sheet about a day and a half later. The base coat doesn't properly adhere to the end of the nail. I've noticed even if I swipe across the end, it either wears off or shrinks back after it's been under the lamp. Please save yourself money on base coat and don't waste your color polish. Invest in a better base cost (like Sally Hansen or OPI). I'm so disappointed and really did my best to make this work.

I love the look of gel nails, and used to spend 35-45 dollars at the salon every two weeks having them done. Last time after spending $40 at the salon my nails chipped the VERY next day, and the salon would not fix it without charging me for it. So I picked this kit up. You have to purchase your polish separately, and if you don't have a light you will need one of those too. There were tons of colors to choose from, I went with Passion for Pink, which is a nice bright pink.

I had high hopes for this polish. The color was an amazing grey and the applicaton was easy, unlike other gel polish. The polish was thin and that worried me, it was too much like regular polish. I had to reapply the paint on one nail the same day and two nails started to chip on the next day. I WILL NOT purchase this brand again.

I am an experienced gel polish user. I typically use CND Shellac polish. I saw the FingerPaints gel polish at Sally's and bought the base coat, two bottles of color, and the top coat. The base coat went on easily, very much like CND. The color coat (what I thought was going to be a frosted pink) turned out to be a pink filled with very sparkly glitter. The lighter pink I bought also had an excessive amount of glitter (neither of which was apparent from their color swatches in the literature or the color wrap on the bottles). It took three coats to be opaque. Ok, I finished that and put on the top coat and did the final cure. The color looked like something a 12 year old would love. Certainly not something for this 50ish woman. I thought, no big deal, I'll just soak it off like I do CND. I tried to soak it in a bowl of acetone, like I do with CND, but after 10 minutes the polish wouldn't budge. Following their directions, I wrapped each finger with a piece of cotton soaked in acetone and secured to the individual finger with foil. Even after 15 minutes more this stuff required excessive scraping, buffing and then peeling with my nails to get it all off. No thank you! I have natural nails and would like to keep them. Back to the store tomorrow. CND is more expensive, but much more gentle on your nails.
