4.0 out of 5 stars Secola = fun., May 11, 2004
This review is from: Fingermonkey (Audio CD)
Keith Secola is not a stellar musician, and he's not a great singer, either. What he is is the Alter-native equivalent of Randy Newman - a songwriter who writes with great wit and biting humor, poking fun at himself along the way and apparently not taking things too seriously. And that's a welcome change to the otherwise usually heavy (and rightfully so) subject matter that dominates the pop music genre known as "Alter-Native" - pop/rock/blues/R&B music written by and about native Americans and often centering on themes of their well-documented mistreatment at the hands of the rest of us.

But Keith shows us the fun side of NDN life. Odes of love to a part of his anatomy that provides him with who-knows-how-much entertainment. Stories about blossoming love between employees of a pet store and a lingerie shop. Blues that are taken to their logical maximum conclusion with fabulous guest-wailing by Melanie Storm). And the "piece of resistance" - a rousing "millenium" version of his anthem to the joys of rattling down the road from pow-wow to pow-wow that he reprises with each album.

If this stuff doesn't make you chuckle, you ain't livin, brother.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seemless merger of various styles with Indigenous elements!, June 1, 2001
By
This review is from: Fingermonkey (Audio CD)
One of the best "blended" contemporary Indigenous music with Blues, Rock and Alternative music I have heard! My Favorite tunes are: "Can't let go", "Fingermonkey", "Snake Handler", "Talk about you", "Rosie ran outta gas", "Wailing Blues" and "PMM". Keith was nominated for a Nammy (Native American Music Awards) in the Best Blues Category and won a Nammy in the Best Independent recording category (excellent production!). One of my favorite artists to play on the Crazy Coyote Blues Power Show at 1490 KOTY AM Yakima Nation Reservation Radio in south central Washington state.

4.0 out of 5 stars bleeds true red.., February 16, 2011
This review is from: Fingermonkey (MP3 Download)
I disagree with some of the other reviewers. This guy bleeds NDN red with his guitar. I think he channels stevie ray in his music.. I highly recommend his material.
