In 1976, the development of a potentially universal photoluminescence method for the detection of latent fingerprints, using at the time an argon-ion laser, was initiated in the author's laboratory, then at the Xerox Research Centre of Canada, with collaborators J. M. Duff (of XRCC) and B. E. Dalrymple (of the Ontario Provincial Police).
