Book Description

December 1, 2006 10 and up5 and upForensic Science Projects
Detectives are investigating the attack and theft of a paint store owner. They discover an oily fingerprint on the bottom of the opened cash box. A neighbor identifies the suspect seen running from the store on the night of the crime. The suspect s fingerprints are a match, and he is arrested for the crime.
The real-life crime stories in this book are followed by science experiments and project ideas that highlight the forensic technique used to solve the crime. Can you do fingerprint analysis to identify four matching characteristics unique to an individual print? How can you find fingerprints left behind at a crime scene? Do identical twins have the same fingerprints? Take careful notes in your case notebook, your observations could crack the case!

Editorial Reviews

Review

. . . fascinating resource . . . The well-organized, highly readable text . . . Librarians, who know the challenge of helping unmotivated students find a science fair project, will enjoy helping students choose these. --Library Media Connection - March 2007

Both titles are well organized and easy to follow and contain photographs of actual evidence and clear illustrations. Middle school and public libraries will want this series, which also includes books on forgery and blood and DNA evidence. --VOYA - June 2007

Both titles deserve a place in most science-fair collections: the hot subject matter will attract students, while the emphasis of scientific methods and comprehensive back matter will satisfy teachers. --School Library Journal - July 2007
