5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Thrash Metal, May 11, 2011
Coming from Germany, this band proves why Germany was on par, or arguably better than any thrash band from the U.S. This band tears through on this, their second album, Finished With The Dogs. What makes this band stand out besides sounding better than your run-off-the-mill thrash band of the late 80's is the lead singer, Sabina Classen. That's right, a woman lead singer for a thrash band. Most people would immediately jump to conclusions when hearing this, but just by listening to the first track(the title track), it clears any misconception about her abilities. She is easily one of the better singers of the genre, mastering the gutural style of singing made famous by the German bands. Her and the band can easily stand beside any other thrash band in the genre. This album is quite heavy for it's time, tracks like the title track, Current of Death, and In the Slaughterhouse are all amazingly heavy and impossible not to head bang to. The guitars sound very nice and crisp, very thrashy and some pretty good sololing, though it's not really a solo-fest like other thrash albums, which can get tiring after a while. The bass and drums are very excellent, Uli Kusch's relentless double-bass druming keeps the momentum on high-octane. This version is remastered as far as I know, and comes with 4 live bonus tracks. They sound like they were recorded more recently than in the late 80's/early 90's. Overall, this is a great addition to anyone's thrash library.

5.0 out of 5 stars How can you not love an album with a song called "Six fat women"?, December 12, 2010

That gets a 5 star rating from me alone! Queen of Siam was an awesome album but this overshadowed it so much that im convinced a lot of people think Finished with the dogs was the first album. You can't go wrong here "Current of death" alone is worth buying this album yet the whole thing totally rips. This is classic German thrash right up there with "Persecution Mania" & "Infernal Overkill" this is even more evil and Death metal sounding as well.. Sabina & Andy Classen do a fine job of melting your face then devouring your soul. Andy Classen's Chug-a-crunch style is my cup of tea and its not heard much these days. This and New Machine Of Liechtenstein are the albums to pick up if your on a budget, otherwise I'd encourage picking up all their stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you found your way here, buy it, December 8, 2009

The title says it all. You look back at the 80s thrash scene in Germany, and who do you think of? Unless you're REALLY into thrash, you probably think Destruction, Kreator, and Sodom. And that's ok. Those bands were all great and made some stellar albums. If you know them but not Holy Moses, though, shame on you.

Holy Moses has been around since 1980, amazingly, and is still putting out quality thrash (not like some other 80s thrash bands I could name). This album is their first classic, though. It's got that Teutonic brutality we all know and love, but it's ramped up here from Destruction or Sodom. Seriously, this is some brutal old-school thrash. A listen to the title track will tell you that. The riffing is tight and heavy, all the instruments are tight but just loose enough to get that rough edge. Killer riffs here. This is more straightforward and brutal than some of their "newer" albums like Disorder of the Order - it's going to beat your head in and you're going to love it.

I haven't mentioned the vocals yet because, really, how can I describe them? As brutal and fitting for the music as Mille (of Kreator) and done by a totally badass woman, Sabina Classen. Lyrics are what you expect with good old thrash - violent and sometimes a bit silly. It's excellent that this rerelease is available, because this album is seriously up there with any of the 80s thrash classics. It's not exactly Darkness Descends, but this is as fine of thrash as you can find from 1987. This band has been going at it for nearly thirty years with a break in the middle and they do thrash as well as anyone, whether this absolute classic or the newer, more modern albums. Buy. If you're here looking at this and reading this review, you should just go ahead and buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy and ahead of its time, August 28, 2008

Finished With The Dogs is a great heavy metal album with excellent, suprising vocals. When I learned this album came out in the late 80s I was shocked, because it sounds like some of the "extreme metal" of 2008. A lot of it is fast and thrashy, and it's ultra poundingly heavy. If you're into metal, I highly recommend checking out Holy Moses on this CD.
