YO QUIERO MAGO DE OZ!!!!!,
By
This review is from: Finis Terra (Audio CD)
Well... here before me is something unlike anything I have ever heard before. Mago De Oz's "Finis Terra". Upon looking at the tracklist above, I'm sure many have already guessed what makes this band so unique to us. Yes, it is a Spanish band. Let me rephrase that, a Spanish Pagan Power Metal Band. If there was ever a double disc set to rule all double disc sets, it'd be this one! The intro of the CD itself contains dialogue of a young child speaking in Spanish. If I knew Spanish well enough I would be able to tell what he was saying, but i don't so we'll judge this CD on a musical standpoint only. Afterwards, the song Satania kicks in. One thing that's easily noticeable from the start would be the prominent use of the violin. Yes, Mago De Oz has a lead violinist. Layered with Gamma Ray-esque riffing and very nice vocals, this is a great opener to a great CD! Throughout the album we get different ranges of sounds... influences seem to come from all sides.. Gamma Ray, like I mentioned before, some punk influence, though not much at all, ZZ Top like riffs, and even classic Metallica. But the biggest influence comes from Spain's Pagan background. And Mago De Oz really elaborate on that! Often times you may be jamming to a bad ass riff then all of a sudden a chorus of stringed and wind instruments breaks loose. Its quite breathtaking. "Finis Terra" gets my highest recommendation! From the minute I heard the title track, Finis Terra, I knew I had something special in my hands! It also doesn't hurt that its also of my native tongue. Being hispanic and listening to not only Spanish music, but Spanish metal at that, is a very proud feeling. In other words, don't miss out on this masterpiece!!

This review is from: Finisterra (Audio CD)
Finisterra is perhaps one of the best albums I have, or will ever have, bought. Even if you don't understand Spanish, it is musically stupendous, stemming from Mago de Oz's boundless creativity and a quirky mix of Jethro Tull, Iron Maiden, and traditional baroque/folk music. Lyrically, Finisterra is a book of poetry, universal and apocalyptic in scope. A must buy for any classical, metal, or folk fan.
