4.0 out of 5 stars The Why of FEM, June 6, 2000
This review is from: Finite Element Analysis (Wiley Series in Computational Mechanics) (Hardcover)
Unlike most other books on the market this book focuses on the strong analytical and mathematical underpinnings of the FEM. Thus, the advanced reader is left with a deep understanding of the method and its modern extensions. There is a good blend of applications too!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book on FEM I know about, May 19, 2005

Johannes (Munich, Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Finite Element Analysis (Wiley Series in Computational Mechanics) (Hardcover)
This book gives an excellent presentation of the mathematics behind the FEM that can also be understood by engineers. A very strong point is the intensive discussion of errors, not only the discretization error but all possible errors that might occur during the complete idealization process.

By practical reasons, the theory presented is mostly limited to two-dimensional problems but results can easily transferred to 3-dimensional problems.

Although the book is on theory, it has been of extremely practical value to me. There is nothing more practical than a good theory.

This review is from: Finite Element Analysis (Wiley Series in Computational Mechanics) (Hardcover)
This book is essential for people who want to understand the p-finite element method. The authors are pioneers in the field, and their writing is excellent. What more could you ask for?
