So far, this heater has been stable holding temps on my Eheim Aquastyle 9 tank (rimless design). Setting seems easy enough.

My only concern is that in my application the cable that goes into the tank for the heating unit itself is fairly thick and causes the glass lid for my particular tank to not sit flat. I've lost a couple of shrimp that climbed over the edge due to this. I'm in the process of creating a new top cover that will have a notch for the heater cable so that the cover can sit closer to the edge of the glass and hopefully avoid any more escapee issues.

I think the product could be slightly improved by using a flat power cable like the heater that I upgraded from used.

My situation is probably not common, so for most tanks this seems like a very good product.

Actually, I'd give this 4.5 stars.

Keeps my 10 gallon tank within 1-2 degrees as advertised and seems sturdy enough to last a long time.

What I did not know from the product description and pictures on Amazon is that this unit also has a separate wired temperature sensor which also needs to be placed into the tank along with the heating element (but located far enough away from it so as not to be reading too high). So you actually have 3 pieces of equipment all connected together.

Also, the two suction cups on the heating element, while clinging to the glass with ease, tend to slide around with the gentlest of pressure. If you want to place your heating element just right you will have to be very careful not to move the cords or disturb anything that touches it.

Pros:
Solidly built
Keeps temp to within 2 degrees
No glass parts to crack
Separate sensor placed away from heater gives a more accurate reading
Digital readout of current temperature
High temperature safety shut-off feature

Cons:
Separate sensor is just another thing that will take up space in a small tank (albiet it is small itself)
Suction cups on heater slide on glass easily if disturbed
Main cord to heating element could be a bit longer

I installed this item in my aquarium right away. It warmed the water in our 55 gallon tank fairly quickly. I was impressed.

Pros:

Visual appeal - Thermometer/heater unit anyway.

Temperature is easy to read.

Heats quickly.

Keeps water temperature constant.

Cons:

Thermostat looks cheap and is hard to hide because its attached so closely to the the unit that you need to keep it close.

Programing the temperature settings is more difficult than most units.

Suction cups that hold the thermometer/heater unit are poorly made causing them to constantly lose their grip. I am continuously having to replace the suction cups to the inside of the tank.

Over all the unit works as I need it to. I have a 55 gallon tank and it has no problem keeping the water at the required temperature. I purchased this unit in January and have had it now for a little over 3 months. If I have any issues I will let you know.

I am not an expert on aquariums but I have owned a few heaters over the years. This seems to be one of the best. You can adjust it without taking it out of the tank or getting your hands wet. It also gives a digital reading of the current temp. This is good because my last heater died and I didn't know, I only noticed it because my fish were very lethargic. I can't comment on it's durability I have only had it a week, but I am hopeful and so far very happy.

I have gone through a few name brand heaters and have always had problems with the temperature - one time the temp went up to 90 degrees and another time it just quit working! This one displays the temperature digitally, and the actual water temperature is very consistent. I've used it for several months now and waited to write a review to be sure I would be happy over the long haul. It does have a separate wire for the temperature which is separate from the heating unit, so you will have an extra wire to hide in the tank. The clip that holds the digital display could be a bit thicker, but holds it OK. It does just what it says it will do and I am satisfied with my purchase.

I ordered this a year and a half ago when my two oscars were about 5 inches long. My oscars are now about 10 inches and they love to rip the filter an heaters off or push them out of the tank.

The heater stands up to them well and still works great. A very good buy.

I have this heater in a 46 gallon tank with a glass top. The room temperature is generally around 70 degrees F. The heater is set at 78 degrees F and keeps the tank within a degree of than as long as the lid is closed.

I prefer these titanium tube heaters over the glass tube type heaters as the control mechanism is not in the water and it less likely to fail. Over the years I've had several glass tube heaters stop coming on, and one that wouldn't shut off. The one that wouldn't shut off killed my fish. Another advantage to these types of heaters is that I can clearly see the tank's temperature on the controller every time I feed. This makes it easier to notice if something is wrong.

I own a couple of titanium heaters that are a different brand and they reset themselves to their default temperature if they lose power. This Finnex heater maintains the set temperature through a power outage. I appreciate not having to mess with this heater after an outage.

The Finnex heater control unit didn't hang well on my tank, but I was able to easily mount it on the wall next to the tank. I would say that the clip that is supplied to hang the control unit on the tank could be much more robust for those who would like to hang the controller. It is a single wire clip, where a double wide wire clip would hold it much more securely. The single clip lets the controller flop around a little while you push the buttons.
