I just set this light up on my 29 gallon high aquarium and the color is great! I gives the aquarium a slightly golden color which is perfect for the freshwater richness many people like out of their planted tanks.
Another great feature of this light is that its PAR rating is slightly higher than other lights of similar design. The quality color, lighting and strength is already turning plants like my ludwigia and water wisteria beautiful shades of pink and bright green.
Great for the price, quality, power. An easy first or second choice, for any beginning or advanced planted aquarist.

And there was light.

Talk about dividing the light from the darkness! This Finnex LED fixture certainly will do that.

This is my second Finnex light fixture. The first one is a 16 inch Fugeray+ that is currently being used on my 5 gallon planted tank. I was pleased with that unit, so I went ahead and decided to look at the 24", Ray 2 model and considered it with another brand.

I bought this to replace an Orbit fixture. The Orbit is a high quality unit made by Current USA. It is very bright, but generates a lot of heat and is not very energy efficient. The Orbit uses high output, bent-tube fluorescent bulbs. The entire 24" fixture is cooled by an electric fan contained within the unit. Very nice system. However, I felt that it was time to replace it with something that runs cooler and that is more energy efficient. I looked at two fixtures: Finnex Ray2 Daylight and the Current Satellite for Freshwater tanks.

The Satellite is also an attractive fixture. And it comes with a remote control that you can use to control the system. With the remote, you can dim the output, and you can change the output light's colors. This is a great feature to have, and makes the system very versatile. For example, you can adjust the color of the light to enhance the appearance of your fish.

This Finnex fixture is the high-output version, designed to provide as much light as possible for the given tank size of 24 inches. The LEDS are 7000K, and there are many more of them than you will find in a Fugeray+. For most normal situations, the Finnex Fugeray (Planted +) would be sufficient. For example, if you do not pump CO2 in your tank, then the Fugeray would be the ideal light fixture for you.

Bought this light for my son's deep 25 gallon tank after looking at inferior and overpriced units available at my local chain pet stores & online. It was a replacement for the dim florescent tube light that came with the tank. What a difference!!! The tank is so bright it actually looks like natural sunlight (it will actually cause you to see spots for a few minutes if you look at it straight on when lit). We have been using the light daily for about 3 months now and it is still working flawlessly. The light is bright enough to support the growth of a few Amazon swords, onion plants, and a couple of unnamed tubers. The light fixture is small, solid, and sleek looking-it is a definite improvement over the old black plastic box that was there before. I purposely waited some time to see if this light would hold-up before writing a product review to be sure I was not recommending another disappointing aquarium light system. After a few months of daily, sustained use I am pleased to report it has there are no still no problems with the light. All the LEDs are still functioning and there has been no issues with the light's performance whatsoever thus far. The only word of caution I would offer is that be very careful with the light duration. We started the light on a 12 hour daily cycle from the start and there was significant green algae growth problems on all surfaces of the tank, gravel, plants, and lid. We finally got the algae under control and are currently running it for 7-8 hour daily cycles without algae growth. If you are looking to add some punch to your tank without spending some major cash upgrade your lighting with this light.

So far so good, have had one Finnex Ray 2 DS for about 2 weeks on my 29 gallon planted tank. This will give you medium to high lighting on a 29 gallon based on the par readings available from Finnex so you should use CO2 and dose fertilizer if you are going to use this light otherwise you will probably have algae issues; the successful planted tank is all about balancing CO2, ferts and lighting. I am already seeing good plant growth and pearling with just 2 weeks of use. This light casts more of a high white to green light compared to the reddish warm tone of my old dual T5HO aquatic life with giesemann aquaflora and midday bulbs but I can live with that because this light is so much thinner and lighter than the aquatic life. This is always cool to slightly warm to the touch where my aquatic life was warmer to hot. The only negative I can see is that the cord is only 4 ft long, much shorter than my aquatic life.

These lights have finally allowed me to keep all the plants that I have always wanted. My ludwigia has turned a coppery red with the undersides bright flame red, all my plants are pearling sometimes by midday especially if flourish excel is added. I just have a Diy co2 on a 10 gal. I spent about 6$ at my LFS on discounted half dead plants, some were just roots with half a leaf or stem. After about a week of settling in and slow growth these plants skyrocketed, one month later my aquarium is an underwater forest. It is very bright but the fish don't seem to mind it, not even my bristle-nose Pleco which comes out to snack during the day. The light produces a lot of algae so be sure to have some sort of algae eater to keep that in check. The light is also very good for seeing the colors of the fish, since it is so bright it reveals a lot of detail. Now for anyone with a 10 gal the 18 inch is good, but must have hood as legs won't reach sides. I was so impressed I have now purchased the 48 inch for my 75 gallon tank which I'm setting up, and thanks to their 18" light will now be profusely and cheaply seeded with plants. Light is somewhat of a narrow beam, I find that having it on the legs on top of my glass hood created a better effect then laying it flat on the glass as there was more light diffusion in the tank water. If laid flat these lights penetrate extremely deep and fill the bottom of the tank with light while leaving the water column bright but not quite as bright as the tank bottom, dark substrate helps this.

Pros: Very Bright, Lightweight, Slim, Low-power

Cons: Short cable (3 feet)

All in all I would highly recommend this to anyone who has live plants, or just wants a brightly lit tank for that matter.
