Book Description

June 28, 2011 Fins

On Lily Sanderson’s eighteenth birthday she’ll become just a girl—still a mergirl, true, but signing the renunciation will ink Princess Waterlily of Thalassinia out of existence. That leaves plain old Lily living on land, dating the boy she loves, and trying to master this being-human thing once and for all.

Now that Lily and Quince are together, mer bond or not, she’s almost content to give up her place in the royal succession of Thalassinia. But just when she thinks she has everything figured out, the waves start to get rough. Lily’s father sends a certain whirlpool-stirring cousin to stay with her on land. What did Doe do to get herself exiled from Thalassinia and stuck in terraped form when everyone knows how much she hates humans? And why why why is she batting her eyelashes at Lily’s former crush, Brody?

The seafoam on the raging surf comes when a merboy from Lily’s past shows up—Tellin asks Lily for something that clouds her view of the horizon. There’s a future with Quince on land, her loyalty to the kingdom in the sea, and Lily tossing on the waves in the middle. Will she find a way to reconcile her love, her duty, and her own dreams?

Tera Lynn Childs’s sequel to Forgive My Fins offers another tail-flicking romance with plenty of fun, sun, and underwater adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crabbtastic and Delicious June 29, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
OH WOW, I love this series!!! This book was Crabbtastic!! In Fins are Forever the story continues right where Forgive My Fins left off with Lily being madly in love with Quince but deciding that she is interested in giving up her crown in Thalassinia as future queen to stay as a human on land forever with her boyfriend Quince and seek out college and a new life.

Forgive my Fins was great and so I had high expectation for Fins are Forever to be equally good!! However, I think that Fins are Forever was better than my expectations! I devoured the book as fast as possible and might even go back through and read it again! You know the author is great when the second book in the series doesn't have the case of "boring middle book" syndrome but is just as exciting as book one!

The new twists of Lily's bratty younger cousin Doe showing up was great! She is one of those characters you hate but find a bit amusing and appealing! The trouble she brings to the book adds a bit of additional humor to the story that is great!

Again, the plot in this series is unlike anything I've ever read and is so engrossing that it is hard to imagine waiting for the additional books in the series to be released! The ending was a bit predictable but still not disappointing in the least.

The romance is of course the most important part of this story and I loved it in Fins are Forever. I wish there were more kissing scenes between Lily and Quince but what Childs gives us is great! There was a mild make-out session between 2 other characters but it was all done very clean and I would say this book is appropriate for any age group!

One of my favorite things about Tera Lynn Childs writing is that her stories are fun, easy going, delightful but so engaging that you are thinking about the story for a long time after reading it and it is hard not to compare every other mermaid book out there to this outstanding series!

This was a great summer read that you should run out and buy even if you are not a young adult! I am almost 30 and this book has made my favorites list! Not sure how I will survive waiting for book 3.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute but missing the whimsy of the first book July 5, 2011
Format:Hardcover
Fins are Forever is the sequel to the delightfully original mermaid taleForgive My Fins.

Warning:Contains spoilers for Forgive my Fins - the first book in the series.

Lily has chosen to renunciate her title as Princess Waterlily to be with her true love Quince and live forever on land. She is having a few tiny misgivings though. The usually perpetually perky Lily is having a bit of a hard time this time around. Her cousin Dosnia has committed an unspeakable offense and as punishment has been sent to live on land - with Lily.
If you read the first book you know that Doe is NOT Lily's favorite person. She's impulsive and selfish and continually flirts with Quince.
There is also trouble brewing under the sea. An alliance in the form of a bonding kiss with childhood friend Tellin would go along way to smoothing things over but could prove to be too much for Lily's human boyfriend Quince to handle.
I really, really, really wanted to love Fins are Forever but I just didn't. The first book swept me away in it's magical, quirky prose. I do understand that we need some drama and Lily is going through a lot of changes in her life but she was very negative in this book and I don't enjoy a negative Lily. She was almost pouty and whiny.
Her cousin Doe and her blossoming romance with Lily's former crush Brody provides conflict but to be honest I don't like Doe or care that much about her so I wasn't invested in her storyline too much.
Tellin sort of just pops up out of nowhere with a pretty big offer for Lily that would completely change her life yet again. The internal conflict that Lily has to work out between her loyalty to the people of Thalassina and her love for Quince was more interesting but was shortchanged and felt rushed to me. If there is a sequel, I'm guessing that Tellin will play a much bigger role. One that Quince (& I ) will not be too happy about. So in that regard this plotline felt more like a setup for the next book.
Quince and Lily have the most amazing relationship. It's sweet, loyal and surprisingly mature for their very young age. I just wish there was more of it in Fins are Forever. Quince isn't in this book nearly enough. Lily thinks of him often and he plays such a big part in all her decision making so it would have been great if he was physically present more often.

Rating: For me this was a 3 but many of my blogger friends have read it and loved it as much as the first so I would still recommend fans of the series read it. It just lost some of that fun, magical quality that I loved so much in Forgive My Fins. Nevertheless I would snap up the sequel in a heartbeat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Flirty with Fins June 28, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Fins are Forever is a fun read. If your in the mood for something light and refreshing add this one to your summer reading.

Being royalty shouldn't be a pain in the caudal fin. Lily Sanderson's life should be perfect. She is a princess after all. Unfortunately Lily has a lot of figuring out to do. Her whole life has been dedicated to her future, and her duty to be the best queen possible. Lil is torn between her life, love, and family ashore, and her duty, and kingdom at sea. Life as she has always planned and prepared for has drastically changed. Without being in a bonded coupling by her eighteenth birthday Lily can't become crown princess, and the one person she wants to bond with is immune.

So Lily has to plan for the life unexpected. One lived on land. She has decided to abdicate her throne. Lily has chosen love and Quince over Queendom. It's too bad she didn't take school more seriously. With less than a month before graduation Lily is trying her best to salvage her academic career so she can go to college.

But fate and her family are about to make things even more difficult, when her human hating cousin, Dosinia is exiled to shore it becomes Lily's last duty as princess to educate Doe on the ways of the human world. But Doe has plans of her own. She's causing all kinds of mischief that's got Lily swimming in circles. Adding to the already mounting tension is the addition of a guppyhood friend who offers Lily a solution to her conflicting dilemma between love and duty. But is the offer worth the possible sacrifices.

Childs packs the story with relatable situations for her teenage audience. Lily's struggle with finding her own way in the world is as endearing as her quirky slang. A lot of YA being published today are really pushing the boundaries of young and adult. Most seem to cater to an older age range. Fins are Forever does have one heavy petting make out scene, which is quite tame. I think this book has some great lessons and is perfectly appropriate for the genre and age group. This book made a splash with solid story lines, interesting characters, and wonderful threads for a third installment. Fins are Forever is a great beachside read.

Holy Bannannafish! This book is Frogging Crabbtastic!
