Organic fire ant treatment,
By
This review is from: Fire Ant Control W/Conserve- 1 lb. (Kitchen)
I am really pleased to be able to control fire ants on my yard without using harmful chemicals. This product is considered organic because it is produced from a bacterial fermentation process that produces a toxin. My expereince was very good. When I spread the bait ants immediately began carrying it into the nest. In a short time it was all gone. The next day I saw many dead ants and almost no live ones where there had been hundreds. I just hope we can find a place to buy it without the high shipping cost.

The product seems to work. Ant activity was greatly reduced in one day and seemed to disappear within a couple of days of treating a mound. Don't be fooled like I was in thinking this is a safe product around humans, kids, and/or pets. The "Organic" and "Green" packaging gave me the impression this is a safer product than most. The warnings on the back of this package are a little scary--IMHO. i.e. "Don't even use tobacco products without thoroughly washing hands with plenty of soap and hot water."

20 years of battling fire ants and finally a reliable control !!!,

We love this product and buy it by the case for use on our 15 acre farm. We love it so much we're thinking of building out another web site just to sell it.
We are inundated by fire ants this year in central Florida possibly due to the amount of rainfall. We have had fire ants trailing up our exterior walls, into our soffits and in our garage. For years our defacto standard has been 93% d'limonene (diluted to 5%) as a spot control and cedar oil as a barrier. Neither typically kill the queen and certainly never kill polygynous (multiple) queens. This is the only organic product that has worked for us and we have tried them all. We've begged university researchers to let us test Thelohania infected fire ant larvae on our property or release Phorid flies here. We've even experimented with a Old World Bluestem grass called WWB Dahl which supposedly has an odor that fire ants don't like. We're not experts but have been battling these little [...] for 20 years. We are seeing more and more multiple queen nests and those seem to be very linear in appearance. Often it takes multiple applications of GreenLight to terminate all the queens. One part of the nest may be killed but a new section pops up a foot away. If applied early or late in the day or when overcast - the ants typically come blasting out to investigate. They love the soybean based carrier and it's great there is something soy is good for. It sure isn't as a human food. Within an hour the ants have usually carried all 3 or 4 tablespoons of product into the nest. Twelve hours later the activity is reduced by at least 95% with only a few workers active. It's fun to watch them take the bait in a feeding frenzy. Large grasshoppers, carpenter ants and Argentine ants also take this bait although the label doesn't mention it as being effective on anything but fire ants and Texas harvester ants. One concern was the ants developing resistance to Spinosad (Conserve). We've been assured by a fire ant expert (PhD) that there is no record of a social insect developing a resistance to a pesticide due to breeding with surrounding untreated colonies and therefore swamping any possibility of adaptive selection. We'll be broadcasting it over 11 acres soon in an effort to get control and avoid all the spot treatments. Contact us through LilDonkeys (the dot com not the dot org) in Dunnellon, Florida if you wish to find out about the success of our broadcast application.

I have only used the product one time. The fire ants moved a short distance away from the treated mound and made another mound. I will use again when the weather forecast does not call for rain.

I purchased 4 lbs of this product for my 2.5 acre test pasture and 66x198ft grass arena. My 12 acre property drains into 2 stocked ponds and I have a couple of dogs and cats that follow me everywhere. I have red fire ants, black fire ants and a hybrid fire ant. :( I also have a couple of armadillos that are tunneling throughout my pastures. Although they like the fire ants, they leave nasty 3 ft deep holes when the horses step in them! My philosophy was: if I get rid of the ants there will be no food for the armadillos and they will leave.
I spot treated the largest mounds and used broad spectrum for the rest. I had 10 days of bright sunshine. At first I thought it was working. The large mounds were dead w/in 72 hours, but on day 4, the large mounds had 3-4 new mounds just outside the ring. Within another week, I discovered numerous tiny mounds had popped up EVERYWHERE! We'll be putting in a organic garden next spring so I had high hopes for this product. It might work for a tiny area. I think the concept is good, but it doesn't work for more than a couple of weeks, not the 2 months that are advertised.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I had searched the internet for a safe product I could use on fire ants in my garden. Most ant poisons state that they are not safe to use in vegetable gardens. I was delighted to find that you sell this product. I have been using it this summer and it has solved my fire ant problem. I intend to buy some more so I will have it for future use in my fall vegetable garden and for next spring. I would highly recommend this to everyone!

Whatever they put in it to attract the ants is good stuff - you can see them come out and start carrying it away as soon as you put it down. I just purchased another brand with Conserve (Safer) that the ants do *not* like - they walk right over it and leave it alone. So I'm ordering some more of the Green Light!
Once they've taken it in, they are goners. I've whipped down two 18-inch high mounds that I let get out of control. And it's OK for organic gardens! What's not to like? Edited to add that it gets cheaper as you go along, if you use it regularly. When I first started, my 9/10 acre took six to eight bags. (I treated mounds, the house and storage building perimeters, and the fence perimeter.) After having used it for several years, the ants are virtually gone. I just treated the house and storage building perimeters and the very few remaining mounds with just two bags. Edited to add that I suggest you do a Google search for this product in addition to Amazon - the price has gone way up here, and I found a serious deal on 12 bags (like less than 1/2 the price here per bag) by using Google.

I saw this item on the net. Living in Florida, I have a huge problem with fire ants. Nothing seemed to work, but this works, the Texas Two Step, Orange Guard and this particular stuff. I called around here to the local hardware stores, Lowe's and Ace did not carry this product.

Works great, only a few treatments and the yard is ant free. I'm in NC and the fire ants have only been here a few years, but this is the perfect product for someone who doesn't want to use the harsh chemicals. We're on a well, and have kids so our direct contact is very important, not to mention the water table being affected by our yard run off. Do the research and you'll find that this stuff is the ticket.
