"The author . . . tells about the little demons in an unbiased and easy-to-read manner. Since he approached the miserable little insect with matter of fact writing, I wonder if Taber has ever really been bitten, although he claims to have been `stung hundreds of times.' If he has and can still write objectively, he is a better man than me--I can hardly talk about them with a civil tongue."

A fascinating book. While it also includes a well illustrated taxonomic key, I found its main strength to be the discussion of the fire ants' biology and ecology. If you liked Dr. Taber's Harvester Ant book, you will probably also like this one.
