Memorable,

This review is from: Fire Bringer (Paperback)
David Clement-Davies has such a gripping writing style. His imagery overwhelmes the senses and he has an incredible talent for personification. People say "the verbs make the author", and this is true for Davies. He knows just how to transform what could be a simple movement of shadow or gust of wind into something captivating and emotional. Combined with Davies' strong style, his research he put into all of his books shows through in FIREBRINGER. Deer are not my favorite animals, but I decided to give it a try since THE SIGHT, about wolves, was such a memorable experience for me.FIREBRINGER did not disappoint. A good book for me captures my attention from the beginning; I don't have much patience for books to grow into something. The establishment of characters and gorgeous setting, the tyranny of the politics mixed with the theme of animals to compare to people, are all great elements set up in the first chapter. This book is not without its surprising twists and turns, and I garauntee a reader won't get bored with this novel if they're into animal-themed books. It's an emotional journey filled with symbolism, friendship, betrayal, everything all jam-packed into one amazing book. Davies' extended metaphor of Rannoch to Christ is certainly interesting, and the end is much like the fate of that religious symbol. Readers of FIREBRINGER, or anything by David Clement-Davies, will find this as much of a journey as it is for Rannoch.

Fire Bringer,
This review is from: Fire Bringer (Kindle Edition)
Great book! Really good read. The story is about a young deer named Rannoch who had to leave his herd, because of an evil deer named Drail who killed his Rannochs father. The story is about Rannochs effort to get rid of the evil deer- who are a menace to all Lera ( animals), and figure out the secrets of his own power.

A Kid's Review

well, i kinda have to say a bit more. This book ranks on my top ten reads. magnificent. original. near perfection. So Rannoch is a red deer, with all the great characteristics of a strong main character. He lives completely unaware of the danger, his identity, and his powers. This book leads you through many pages all the way to a solid ending. Five stars. No question about it. BUY IT. (also be sure to read The Sight, by the same author, similar book.)

AN amazing first novel,
This review is from: Fire Bringer (Paperback)
It is a dark time for the red deer. Drail is old and frail, not what the herd needs for a leader, but through Sgorr, his cunning second-in-command, he has secured his place as leader. Almost. The Outriders have been protecting the herd for ages and are the only thing between Drail and ultimate rule of the herd. But there is a prophecy, and it is about to be fulfilled. This book is both amazing and exciting! The deer are believable as their characters and only take on human speach, unlike the Warrior series. The deer are deer with a voice that we can understand. Their fears and actions are true to their nature. Often in books about animals, the author will incorporate so much human personality into the animals, it is simply a man with a different skin. But David Clement-Davies walked the balance between the two worlds and brought back a remarkable tale. Full of twists and turns, this book hardly gets dull. And I just had to find out Sgorr's secret. The stort is filled with unforgetable characters and an ending that no one could have expected. Fire Bringer is a tale of courage and sacrifice, of danger and twists. For a first novel, this is amazing in detail and pacing. If only such books were more recognized...

I used to like this book...,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Fire Bringer (Paperback)
....until I realized it was just one huge rip-off of Meredith Ann Pierce's "Firebringer" trilogy, which was published many years before this came out. Seriously. You have the son of the leader of the herd who has marking that match a prophecy. You have the herd taken over by a tyrant and his army. You have the main protagonist escape being killed, making contact with humans (even being captured by them), then taking knowledge and wisdom learned from the humans and using it to overthrow the tyrant. And the author even had the gall to plagiarize the title. Just because this one involves stags instead of unicorns doesn't make it any less a copy.
