Bob Sorge is pastoral and prophetic in his message about unanswered prayers and suffering. He truly imparts insight, understanding and hope. I highly recommend this book for anyone whose theological underpinnings have been blown out by circumstances. The author guides one out of the minefield of questions such as "Lord, what is happening in my life? Why is nothing working the way it used to work? Why have You seemingly abandoned me?" He leads us through the theological crises of several Biblical characters and encourages the soul with this Word of God. A must read for anyone waiting on God...

This book touches the heart of those who wonder whether God heard their prayers. It gives a reason to hope in our waiting. This author writes with such passion, as a man who is waiting on God for healing. This book has deepened my walk with God as I found reason to rejoice in my waiting. I finally understand that God is working and I can trust Him in the midst of circumstances I don't exactly care for. Solid biblical references to Moses, David, Paul, and Job are excellent. A great book for those who are sick of suffering and feel that God hasn't heard their cry!

Fantastic book! If you are looking for a resource to help take you deeper into understanding the word of God and the workings of God, then this it. So many times throughout the book, Mr. Sorge captures exactly what I am thinking and saying as I go through my own "fire" in life right now. His writing on God's purposes for broken faith and broken strength make sense and bring me peace that I am right where God wants me to be. It helps me to know that God is pouring out his mercy and love on me at this time in my life to prepare me for His works and blessings. In short, this book is helping me get where I wanted to go, which was to grow in intimacy with God.

The only caution I have is that this is a very meaty read. It is deep spiritual work and highly thought-provoking. I'm not sure I would recommend it to new Christians because I think you need to have a certain level of maturity in your Christian life to really comprehend and incorporate the teachings from this book into your spiritual walk.

Overall, just a fantastic book!

This is another exceedingly hopeful book on living through the periods of testing mature Christians are called to endure. Sorge is the only author I've read so far who emphasizes the "delay" or "waiting" piece of this and why waiting is like going through the fire. Throughout the book he offers pithy memorable hopeful "truths" to meditate upon when the world looks at your situation and calls you deluded. This is a "how to" book, as well as an encouragement to those going through the fire. Don't give up.

If you find yourself in the heat of the refiner's fire and have exhausted all your traditional sources of comfort and answers, this book will give you a ton to think about as you develop a new sense of perspective about your journey toward Christ-likness. If you are in the heat of it right now and crave Biblical insights and practical suggestions get this book NOW. Mr. Sorge writes in an accessible style from his own personal experiences and helps serious believers navigate the rough waters. In the end, you still have to work through your issues, but "Fire" will give you the encouragement you need to hang in there. Just outstanding!

Wonder why you are in such a tough place in your life? Well, here's your answer! God wants something from you and He will use your circumstances to get it. This book will change your life with its hopeful and reassuring revelations of the intent of God's heart toward His children. I could have stopped reading after the 1st chapter - it was so full of wonderful information - I took a week to let it sink in!! I was sad when I finished the book, but VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE!! I recommend this book to every single Christian in search of God's purpose for their life.

I suffered terribly from a very painful divorce 4 years ago and have since had terrible circumstance after another happen in my life, I didn't know what I had done wrong or if God was mad at me for some reason and I can tell you that I went through seasons of questioning God, even angry at God. If you have suffered and have sincerely been trying to serve Jesus and stay faithful to him, this book has some answers for you ~ read it and be blessed!

This book by Bob Sorge helped me tremendously when my husband was badly injured in a life-altering car accident. I searched the scriptures and found comfort in the Lord. But when a friend gave me this book, I ended up reading it twice during his six month hospital stay. When he finally got out of the hospital and still had many problems to deal with, we read it together again, maybe 2 times. It helped me have perspective on the painful parts of life and how much God really does love us in the midst of these terrible circumstances. Bob has walked through his own valleys, so he speaks with authority of the Holy Spirit, using scripture as his basis for everything. I have given this book to people who are going through difficulties, but it's good to read even after you been through something. It helps you sort through the negative things and turn your thinking to the good that God is bringing into your life.

I'm still working my way through this deeply challenging book on faith. Sometimes a chapter at a time; sometimes just a few pages. The author's own experiences make the insights of his book so very real and powerful.

I wouldn't and couldn't have understood this book as a younger person or new believer. Only after you've been in the fire of delayed answers--and doubts about your God--can you truly appreciate it.

It has encouraged me to renew my prayers for situations and circumstances I'd come to accept as "the way things are" or regards as "my thorn in the flesh" or ...

The book was informative, well organized thoughts. It was direct with sensitivity. It took you to a place of total surrender and allow you to allow God to purge you. I have brought at least five and given them away. It is very biblical and insightful.
