Vicious Art started up in 2002. Matti Mäkelä (Guitar) and Robert Lundin (Drums), who both used to be in Dark Funeral, were joined by long time friends and fellow-musicians Jocke Widfeldt (Vocals) (Dominion Caligula, Obscurity Sthlm) and Tobbe Sillman (Guitar) (Guidance of Sin, The dead). In early 2004, Jörgen Sandström (ex Entombed, Grave) joined the band.

I believe it sounds more the like band I mentioned in the title then the other reviewer did. Also, if your a fan of those bands and possibly Dark Funeral. You should like this. There are some Black Metal elements but not many. Vocals are more gutteral then Black Metal. I like it that. I'm not much of a Black Metal Fan. Jorgen does some backing vocals. So, you'll here him in there as well. Also, if you enjoy Torture Division. You should enjoy this! Simliar typs of Death Metal.

Yes, the lyrics might not be perfect but it is a solid release and I enjoy it a lot. I both of their releaes and the 7 inch. I'd rather give my money to these guys instead of the new more trendy At The Gates/ newer Death Metal bands. If you'd rather cater to the old school Death Metal. I'd buy this CD.

Vicious Art's "Fire Falls etc." is something I picked up recently while going through a thrash/death metal kick. Unlike most of the other albums I bought, this one isn't very good. Don't get me wrong: the playing is beyond competent, and the sound is squarely in the mainstream of this non-mainstream genre. There's a healthy amount of At The Gates in here, specifically. Make that an unhealthy amount.

The real problem I have with this album is that it's catchy in a very annoying way. The melodic riffs are hyperactive and overcooked, and the hooks on many tracks are so sing-songy, they're downright irritating. The two worst offenders, unfortunately, are the first two tracks, which tends to put one off listening to the rest of the album. Check out this chorus from "Komodo Lights":

You'll never be the me in you/ that you wish to kill
Perpetual and rhythmical/ so determined to kill
I'll never be the you in me/ that you wish to kill

Rhyming "kill" with "kill"? Delicious. ...Now if that came off as annoying on the page, imagine it screeched in unison, At The Gates-derived raspy vocals, in a bouncy rhythm that is as insistent as any random line from "The Hokey Pokey." Perpetual and rhythmical, indeed. I had to take this one off the iPod.

In conclusion: the band is talented if generic, but all their core ideas about how to write songs are way, way off the mark. Hard to believe someone from quality bands like Grave and Entombed would produce something like this.
