Book Description

November 20, 2007
The retired Firefighters attending a wedding in a small northern Michigan city were unaware of the danger they are about to encounter. All available units in the city had been called to battle a huge blaze at the state university. A fire occurs at the town hospital. People are trapped and help is needed. The old Firefighters are called on to fight one last fire. They must rely on all the knowledge and expertise they had acquired during their working years. This is a story about the sacrifice, camaraderie, and dedication that is the essence of every Firefighter s soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars "A real barn burner...", January 24, 2010
By
A. J. Farrar (Monterey, California, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Fire Horses (Paperback)
R. J. Haig, wrote "Fire Horses" (ISBN 0-7414-4267-1)
It's a story about a group of retired firefighters attending a wedding...and suddenly being called back to duty to fight a huge blaze in the town hospital.
It's a riveting story and a real page turner.
I spent many years in California law enforcement and, I must confess, that on many cold and dreary nights I questioned my career choice when I drove by the nice, clean, warm and dry fire stations on my beats.
While I was working a beat driving a marked police car on the midnight shift, I knew that firefighters were sleeping comfortably in their quarters.
Often I was jealous.
After reading Haig's book, I know that I made the right decision for my career.
We owe a debt of gratitude to those who chose the fire service as a career, for they are truly our heroes.
Thanks to author R. J. Haig for writing the "Fire Horses" so that those of us on the outside of the fire service can get a glimpse into the life and death situations that firefighters face on every call.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read, February 27, 2008
This review is from: Fire Horses (Paperback)
This is an outstanding book for firefightes and civilians.
It's fast paced and puts you in the action.
It's a do not put down until you're finished reading it.
Tears at the beginning and again at the end.
Outstanding book.
