5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Love Story
This is truly an excellent love story that transcends race. The acting was very well and the plot unfolded smoothly. I found it very refreshing to not only see a love story about African Americans, but to also note that this story was very tasteful with very little or no profanity at all. 1.0 out of 5 stars Duh?
whats the point of asking customers to write a review if you don't intend to show it? I wrote a review on this movie because I thought the previous reviews were misleading. In my review I stated in not so many words how awful the movie was. Glancing through the reviews again today all I can see is reviews written by individual who thought it was pretty marvellous...

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Love Story, February 16, 2003

This is truly an excellent love story that transcends race. The acting was very well and the plot unfolded smoothly. I found it very refreshing to not only see a love story about African Americans, but to also note that this story was very tasteful with very little or no profanity at all. There were no explicit sex scenes. Both the leading and supporting characters in the movie were educated, normal, and professionally successful. It is a shame that there are not more movies in theatres like this. This is a movie that should have made it to the big screen to dismiss some stereotypes that many people possess. If you haven't rented or purchased a copy of this movie, I suggest that you do so as soon as possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars cute, funny and interesting, August 26, 2003
This review is from: Fire & Ice (DVD)
Unlike most love stories, this one was fun to watch. I for one don't usually like love stores, but Love and Basketball and Fire and Ice are two of the better ones out there. The acting was good and you will see some new actors as well as some familiar faces. I will purchase this movie for my home collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars MORE, PLEASE GIVE ME MORE!, February 11, 2003

AT LAST! A positive movie showing Black love and family in a postive light; the way we all know how it really is; in spite of the absence of it in Hollywood. Words cannot express my delight in seeing the lead actors in adult roles, after having seen them grow up on television. I would love to see more of this on the major networks. Please buy this, you'll love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love In The Spotlight, January 10, 2005
This review is from: Fire & Ice (DVD)
I really have taken on a real wonderful interest in a lot of movies that were showcased on BET for quite awhile. Largely, because a lot of the good African-American movies are right here, and not in the theaters. It really does surprise me a whole lot. Nevertheless, there is just a lot of excitement in these movies that Arabesque and BET developed, most of them anyway. There have been so many good movies that were made including A Private Affair with Vanessa Bell, the very deep and understanding After All with Holly Robinson Peete, and some other well known ones just like the depths of Fire & Ice.

The 2001 film Fire & Ice, showcases the surprising love story of a well-recognized talk show host, played by Kadeem Hardison from A Different World fame, and a high ranking daughter of a politican, Holly Ames, played by Lark Vorhies from the hit teen show Saved By The Bell. The story is about two worlds that are matching, that sometimes get in the way of their own careers. Kadeem's character wants to fall in love with Holly Ames, but often gets placed back into the spotlight by his well enforced, demanding career. Within this love affair, he considers popping the question, but Holly decides to refuse the proposal, but under the pressure of her friends, and his well recieevd public feelings from a television plea on the talk show Kadeem performs on. Holly steps into the spotlight, and says yes. This film does show that love can be among strange positions.

All in all, Fire & Ice is a delightful film, and is just wonderful to watch. If you have seen this film on BET before, you may want to rent this, buy it on DVD or tape it from BET if it airs again. If not, see this delightful love story for yourself beyond the hearts of fire & ice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Melting the Ice around a broken heart, July 14, 2005
By
This review is from: Fire & Ice (DVD)
I watch this DVD at least once a month. I enjoy it that much. Holly's (Lark Voorhies, Saved by the Bell) father (Glynn Turman, A Different World) is running for Senate and she is trying to keep scandal out of her life so it does not bring negative press to her fathers campaign. Holly finds out her boyfriend Trey has been arrested and had drugs on him. She also finds out he married another woman. She is devastated and decides to throw herself into her work swearing off men. Holly and her business partner Pam (Tempest Bledsoe, The Cosby Show) are hoping to expand their business with a deal that will open a Tampa office. Holly arrives at work one Saturday and finds out she has to deal with a difficult client. Holly and assistant Wanda go to Williams (Kadeem Hardison), and he yells and berates them for the problems he has incurred since having the alarm installed in his home. Holly is not impressed with his belligerent behavior. Holly finds out the specs of his house changed, which caused the alarm to go off. Michael realizes he has to apologize, and he also sees meeting Holly as an opportunity to hopefully get Holly and her ex Trey on his talk show. Michael manages to woo Wanda, but Holly is not trying to be seen with Michael. She promised she would stay out of trouble. Holly watches his talk show, and finds him to be funny, and charming. Michael sends her a cute Teddy Bear, but she returns it. On the show he says "Ladies, if a man sends you a teddy bear or something like it don't send it back." His persistence pays off and they start to see each other. Holly feels her resistance melt more and more and she finds herself falling for Michael and it feels good.

When Holly's brother Robert (Ron Reaco Lee Sister Sister, The Shield) finds out she is dating Michael Williams he says "Michael Williams changes women like he changes his socks." Having dinner one night her family finds Holly with Michael and they end up having dinner together. Michael is interrogated, and Holly's grandmother threatens him with bodily harm if he breaks her grandbabies heart. There is a cute scene of Michael being scared of being on a Ferris wheel. Michael is feeling guilty about booking Trey on the show and can't bring himself to tell her what he did, and he hopes he can fix it before it's too late. Holly finds out that Trey was booked on the show and she is furious with Michael and decides she can't trust him with her heart and feelings. Michael is remorseful and wants to marry Holly, but she is not trying to hear it. Holly wants to confront Michael one more time about breaking her heart, but she hears his speech to the audience and realizes she can trust him. This is around the time I always find myself holding my heart and reaching for my box of tissue.

Fire and Ice is a wonderful love story. Michael is the Fire that has to melt the Ice around Holly's heart. The movie is about learning to love again after being burned. This is a wonderful movie to have in your DVD collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars How Did I Miss This Movie!!!, December 30, 2002

Would you like to see African Americans portrayed in a positive light in a wonderful love story? Then this is the movie for you.

I was in Washington, DC at Best Buy and I saw this movie for sale. I didn't buy and had forgotten about it until I was browsing in Blockbuster and then I saw it again. There was only one copy and I rented it. I took it home and viewed it 3 times in a row. I cried the first 2 times and nearly cried the during the third viewing. I thought the acting in the movie was fantastic and I wondered why this movie wasn't in theatres. It was great to see a love story that just happened to have and African American cast. The movie transcends race and anyone who loves a love story will want this movie for their collection.

However, as an African American I admit I did find it more than refreshing to see us in a movie that didn't involve violence or drugs. Hollywood is ignoring the need for us to see ourselves in positive roles and when I ran across this one I was just too pleased to spend my [money] on it. Do yourself a favor and add this to your collection. I promise you won't be disappointed.

I actually sat my 14-year-old son down to watch this movie with me, not because of all the Luvy-Duvy stuff, though the plot was very cute...
...But more because I really wanted my son to see young Black adults as successful and professional people with
goals and aspirations, and the kind of life and FUN!!!! He can have when he aspires to excellence, for me this movie was a fine display of those things

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fire Sizzles and the Ice Melts, September 6, 2006

Kadeem Hardison and Lark Voorhies chemistry in this movie was sizzlin. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many familiar actors in this movie. It was a good story that was very entertaining. I loved watching their relationship evolve from initially dislike to love. It was good to see Tempestt Bledsoe back on screen and I enjoyed her character Pam. This is a love story that I can watch over and over again and not grow tired.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Find Love When You Least Expect It, January 14, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fire & Ice (DVD)
Finally you get intelligent movies portraying African Americans who are successful in their own way. Holly Aimes (Lark Voorhies) owns a security company and Micheal Williams ( Kadeem Hardison) who is a popular TV host who is known as the sexiest bachelor in America. Holly Aimes is a woman in the limelight who wants her own life and is scorned by her past relationship in the public eye because her father is a respected California Congressman. She basically has sworn off men until she meets Micheal and let's just say a blossoming romance takes over he is doing everything he can to find his way into her heart. I would definitely recommend this movie along with commitments, One special moment, Intimate Betrayal and Rhapsody. All Of these movies I have just name are part of BET's Arabesque Film Library. They are finally coming out on DVD for purchase! Look for the other Arabesque titles because BET Packs Black Star Power.
