One of the best dance compilations,
By
This review is from: Fire Island Classics (Audio CD)
This really is a great compilation, well-mixed and with a wide variety of classic cuts. If you never spent a night at The Saint in NYC and don't know this long, building Jimmy Ruffin mix, God Bless Ya! It is the epitome of morning music. From older to newer cuts, all maintain a great energy in this superlative mix. Throw it on in the car, loud, windows open, and take off!

The Fire Island Pines' Survivors' Soundtrak - Indispensable!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fire Island Classics (Audio CD)
If you've never read Andrew Holleran's DANCER FROM THE DANCE, or taken the ferry from Sayville NY to revel in the bacchanalia at Fire Island' Pines or Cherry Grove, buy this CD anyway. To quote Holleran, "The next song turned their bones to jelly and left them on the dance floor with heads back, eyes nearly closed, in the ecstasy of saints..." Don't miss this sublime collection designed for any disciple of pleasure.

Terrific CD by a DJ Master!,
By
This review is from: Fire Island Classics (Audio CD)
The DJ, Michael Fierman, has magnificent taste and through his music mixing skills he manages to recreate that peculiar paradise of Fire Island Pines, which entrances all who have experienced it, gay and straight males alike. (Although the straight guys do clutch rather fiercely to their girlfriends!)
Like Fire Island Pines itself, the music exudes a type of tropical, urban sexuality. I particularly enjoyed the last track, Souvenirs by Voyage, a glorious disco hit from the 70s. The songwriters appear to have been French, and indeed the song seems to be a gleeful combination of camp and high romance, at which the French are so adept.

Great CD - worth the investment,
This review is from: Fire Island Classics (Audio CD)
I've seen this CD for years at various "community" retail stores selling for significantly more than the amazon prices listed. I purchased it primarily for the Viola Wills and Jimmy Ruffin tracks that I was familiar with.
The positive surprise are the top rate mixes and track#9 Looking at you. Definitely a good addition for anyone raised in the late 70's who understands the whole NYC/Fire Island connection and experience.

This is the second in the series that I own. This is really a a great CD. Have gone to Fire Island several times over the years, trust me, this disc embodies the flavor of the island and the nights of dancing abandon.
Michael Fierman is also a classic ! This is money well spent

That Fire Island Feel!,
By Howdy (Denver, CO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fire Island Classics (Audio CD)
While I love this CD because it does have such a Fire Island "feel" to it, I think anyone who enjoys dance music will like it! Fantastic mixes of some well-known hits, like "If You Could Read My Mind" and "Get Here", and some classic dance songs, like "The Whistle Song" and "Breathe". All mixed together in a smooth and engaging CD. Perfect for a party, or even just as background music while you clean the house!

always puts me in a good mood,

This is probably the best dance CD that I own. Listening to it never fails to put me in a good mood. My only (small) complaint is track 4, which would work better at about half its length (wears out its welcome after a while). Still, that's what programming buttons on the CD player are for. Buy this CD, if you can find it!
