Rob Thomas' Worldbeat,
By Amaranth "music fan" (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fire On The Mountain (MP3 Download)
"Fire on the Mountain" is Rob Thomas' socially conscious worldbeat song about the plight of Africans;it got attention from NPR thanks to the fact Thomas based this song on a nonfiction book by Dave Eggers. Thankfully, it's NOT a cover version of the famous Grateful Dead song. To spice things up, there are African tribal rhythms that throb powerfully throughout the song. In a way,it sounds different from Thomas' usual pop pap. Unfortunately, Thomas' phrasing uses words that really don't sing. It almost sounds like the speech-singing of William Shatner. "Fire on the Mountain" has some light pop,but no heat.
