A great light read,
By Kara Ortiez (Hamilton, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fire over England, (Hardcover)
Very thrilling book, not really dated either, though a little heavy in places with Gloriana-worship. Not too much though. If someone reads it expecting a swashbuckler, they might be a little dissapointed. Some really good escapes and cliffhangers (literally), but I'd call it historical espionage. The love interest was great, not your swooning wall-flower sort of thing. Robin Aubrey, the hero, is strong, but very human and makes mistakes. I see some shades of Sharpe in this, nothing obvious, although Mason is a lot more sympathetic to the Spanish. All in all, it's a great light read, with a good, but not moralising, message.
