It's Kurdish! Only Kurdish!!,
By Rizgar (Sweden) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fire of Passion (Audio CD)
I am not so much preoccupied with nationalism in music, but sometimes it is necessary to reveal the truth about some fallacies like that of the previous reviewer. The music on this CD represents Kurdish music in its most authentic form. It is the music of a Kurdish religious cult called the "Yarsan" or "Ahl-ī Haqq". Followers of this cult have long been isolated and repressed because of their non-Islamic beliefs, and their music - which goes back to pre-Islamic times - has been practiced secretely for many centuries.. This tradition - both the music and the instruments - dosn't exist among Persians or any other ethnic group. Muradī here presents an array of wonderful musical pieces, teqsīms and songs from a devotional ancient sufi tradition. He is known for his unriveled mastery on the Kurdish tembūr of Kirmashan (Kermanshah) region with its 72 meqams and rich repertoire. This album may be easier to understand for the Western listener than his other albums. At times, the music is contemplative, and at times it's passionate revealing the deep sores of a long-suffering people. Highly recommended for anyone interested in listening to one of the most ancient and deep-rooted musical traditions in the world!
