In my opinion this was Petra's best album musically. Not lyrically, but musically. Their albums from around this period went from a muffled guitar like on Back to the Streets and This Means War to a crunchy in your face metal sound complete with some ripping guitars solos from the annointed psalmeister (that's not a real word BTW:)) of God...Mr. Bob Hartman. If you like Petra hard and raw with an 80's metal vibe then by all means...get this CD. You won't be disappointed.

these guys are my absolute favorite band. the reason is, they are from my hometown of Fort Wayne. they got together in 1974 when I was 3. they will definitely be missed. this is the only CCM band that never went secular. if there is a band that can beat Petra, I have yet to see it. they are like the CCM Cinderella. they can really kick your butt and break your heart, but in a positive light. On Fire mirrors that philosophy. two of my favorite songs are on here are All Fired Up and Hit You Where You Live. another Petra album I recommend is Unseen Power, which is also in my collection. R.I.P. guys-you deserve that retirement.

Following up "This Means War!" must have been a daunting task, but Bob Hartman and friends proved that they still had it and rolled out yet another classic. Still in their 80's arena-rock phase(why not, since it was '88?) they packed this one with the most intense guitar they had done yet, with the uncompromising and soul-stirring lyrics fans had come to expect.

Intermingled with the rock are two awesome ballads, "First Love" and "Homeless Few". Not to be missed or taken lightly!

"On Fire!" is a great momument to the resurrection of a passionate, refined, and driven faith. I give it 4 stars because, while "This Means War!" is awesome straight through no exceptions, this one unfortunately has one or two tracks that might have you skipping ahead (mainly "Mine Field" and "Open Book"). But hey, you may love those too. They're not bad, just not great in my opinion.

If you liked any of Petra's other 80's albums, don't deny yourself this one. No Petra collection can be complete without it.
