telenovela film, March 8, 2006
This review is from: Fire in the Soul (DVD)
With its overacting and over-staged performances, this may have been a movie-length work, but it still resembled a telenovela.
With its airport sequences, this film attempts to riff off of Almadovar's "Women on the Verge," but fails. It also tries to deal with post-911 life. However, Spike Lee's "25th Hour" beats this work with a bat.
The most interesting sequences of the trilogy involved a married man with a boyfriend. Do you remember in "Human Nature" when Madonna asks, "Would you like me better if I were?" This storyline ends however viewers want to see it as. This is just like in the French film "Cafe au Lait" when one doesn't find out who is the biological father.
This disc starts with movie previews that you cannot skip over. Worse, they have no English subtitles and English monoglots will be lost and bored during them.
